Sunroof removal on track car

Hi, I've a 924S which I'm intending to use as a track car and I'm stripping out trim at the moment which brings me to the sunroof. Its electric and I wonder if there is any benefit in replacing the actual panel with something lightweight and removing the motor etc. Has anyone done anything similar?
 
Strip it out, sell it on ebay to pay for the project and then rivet an ally panel in it's place!
