Sunroof seal

I have a slight leak from the sunroof - actually where the sunroof seal meets on the roof itself. I've removed the seal and intend to clean, re-fit and use a little silicon sealant to bridge the gap.

Whilst I'm at it I removed the seal around the roof aperture - it lifted off very easily.

Question - should I use anything to adhere either of the seals - I spotted on a previous thread someone used "dum dum" - whatever that is.



 
I was tipped off that rubbing vaseline into the seal can help to waterproof it. I also tried to cure my leaks by putting a bead of silicon accross the join gap but it didn't work, i ended up splashing out on a new seal from Porschshop which turned out to be too long and had to be cut much to my disgust. Anyhoo, it's still leaking but only from 1 place now instead of 101 so i'm thinking of getting a new inner seal although i can't see it making much difference. I'll keep an eye on this thread and see what you are advised to do, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of info on this subject though.
 
yep - all 4 drain - 3 of the 4 drain out to the floor - the last doesn't (front passenger side) - it drains but gets stuck somewhere - poured gallons down there - it doesn't back up but I cant see where it goes....
 
Never one to rush things I finally got round to changing seal today. Bert suggested not cutting it (as a number of folks have commented was required) but squeezing the extra on - after a lot of struggling it all fitted - so i was very pleased. However, now the sunroof won't now fit in the aperture - not sure if that because the seal is new and wider or because I've squeezed it all on.... I tried to re-engage the legs but they have stopped working - they didn't engage properly as the roof was too high - but now don't move either way. They still draw power as the engine dips when I press the button, but no movement or noise. Thoughts on either problem would be welcome.
 
Make sure that the front f the sunroof is still pressng the micrositch with the centre hook part. This happened to ke, no power to the legs until I made sure that the button was being pressed.
 
If you put a new seal on be prepared to suffer several months of missery as new seal beds in. Mine came too fat and I had to assist the roof by pushing it tight every time I opened and closed it. Worked nicely in the end but was a pain to start with!
 
I bought a new seal from Porsche and it was too long and had to be cut. I cut it too short! So had to use a bit of silicon to plug the gap. Cleaned out all drain holes with an airline and it has been good since.

Exactly the same issue with my old Turbo after renewing the inner and outer seals - it took 12 months before the seal had 'relaxed' enough for the panel to sit flush without any assistance!
 
Guys Many top tips - thanks - I'll have a look at the weekend - really wish I had a garage [:'(] as the damp proof course hat doesn't suit LIL at all....
