Sunroof Woes - '02 996 Turbo

Hi Folks

A quickie. The cables that operate the sunroof on my 996 Turbo appear to have come off the rails and the roof only opens UP now. If I try and get it to slide open it simply makes one attempt and stops. When in the UP position, there is a lot of rattling from the mechanism while driving. I'm told by the dealer I bought it from that they have an associate in the detailing business who "knows about sunroofs" and he'll fix it for me at no cost, but it does mean driving a long way to get the job done (twice) and of course it means I need to trust that the detailer actually does know what he's doing. The trim inside the car (roof trim) is suede and I'm concerned that it will never look perfect again if someone has a go.

Can anyone tell me how big a job this really is? How easy (or difficult) is it to remove the replace the roof lining so that it's absolutely perfect? If I took it to a specialist, does anyone have an idea how much it might cost?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Chris
