Sunroofs.....again

I'm sure this came up last year and I think I know the solution, but it didn't work.

Recent post re: sunroof removal, position one, the levers at the rear of the panel on each side move back and you can remove the panel.

On mine, the levers sort of click and don't move back.

I seem to remember this is something to do with a microswitch at the front of the panel in the centre. So, I tilted the panel and clicked the microswitch with a pen to make sure it was free, but no joy with the little levers retracting.

Have I got this right, or was there another solution?

If I need (or want) to change the microswitch, how do I get access without removing the panel, which I can not do at the moment (Catch22?).

Any assisantance will be appreciated, as the sun is starting to come out.

Cheers

If they are tyring to move and clicking it sounds more like stripped cogs (does it open normally?). For microswitch issues you can turn the motor manually overiding the electrics (behind the carpet in the boot battery side).
There is good info on the clarks garage site on repairing and setting up the sunroof.

Yes, the sunroof tilts no problem.

I'm sure it is something to do with the microswitch, which stops the little levers retracting if the sunroof is open. I think that because the microswitch is stuck, or jammed, it thinks the sunroof is open and therefore won't retract the levers.

What you need to do is remove the panel at the boot N/S, undo the bolts on the sunroof mech, check to see if the regulator is not bent, this can sometimes bend a fraction by its self over time and cause the roof not to work. I have had this problem on a few, also regrease before putting back together. Also make sure that the regulator is touching both switches when it moves forward and back, if not this can also cause the sunroof to retract all the way on position 2.

Are you sure you've got position 1? My ignition switch seems to have worn somewhat over the years and the clicking of the positions seems to have worn smooth and are bearly detectable. I have to be pretty accurate with finding position 1 to make mine work.

Mine did that. The electrical part that makes the clicks is only about £40 and well worth replacing.

It was one of the parts my indie replaced while I wsn't there so I don't know on either count, sorry.
