supercharger

Thats the chaps...9M ....
the last 968 they did put out something like 365 bhp..[:D][:D][:D]
That could also be extracted from a 944.....

I had quite a lengthy chat with the guys from ninemeister at last weekends Autosport show and they suggested 120bhp gain was on the cards for an S2, but more importantly its the driveability of the install (that they claim it offers) which makes it so appealing to me.

To a layman such as myself the install did look very neat, particularly considering how little space there is in there.

The cost of such work is perhaps a little difficult to rationalise, but since when did being rational have anything to do with our cars! And lets face it it still gives you a very high performance car for less than the price of some bland eurobox.

I've been offered the chance of a drive in their demonstrator 968 (which if I heard them right has hit the limiter at an indicated 185mph [;)]) which I hope to do as and when I can find the time to head over there.

Best regards,
Peter.

There are quite a few new and seriously low mileage suprechargers off Mini Cooper S's that get junked when they get the Works ocnversions done. They can be picked up quite cheaply and I've often wondered if a kit to use these would be a useful thing to make up. Wouldn't give outrageous power gains, but for anyone like myself with a 2.5 Lux that could do with a little more oomph, it would be an idea.

I doubt the supercharger is the expensive bit. You could use some 944 Turbo parts I guess, but how far you can go with that I don't know - probably the intercooler and inlet manifold, but the other side of the intercooler back through the SC to the air intake would have to be fabbed, as would a bracket and pulley to drive the SC. Never having had a supercharger I'm guessing here that they incorporate some sort of wastegate equivalent to prevent overpressuring as part of the unit? If not you need to work that in somehow too.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]After that you need to remap it somehow to provide the fuel to go with the extra air, and because the fundamental volumetric properties of the engine will have been changed just adding more fuel everywhere with higher fuel pressure or bigger injectors won't work.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I don't think it will be an easy conversion to do first time, but with my other car (track-day prepped 205 GTI with MI16 engine in it), there are a couple of guys in that owners club that have used the same supercharger to get good results from the MI engine, without a huge outlay in cost. They did the bracket and intake fabrication themselves though.

All considerations you mention of course need taking into account (I've spent far too much time messing about with turbo cars and know about the requirements of forced induction), but it's not an impossible task and should be a good bit cheaper than the ninemeister kit if you can to the fabrication yourself.

Have a look at www.speedforceracing.com they`re in California? S2 superchargers $5999, have asked them about lux version, and am awaiting a reply. Their site shows a bit of good detail of the different parts and how they fit together.

The price is very steep. Is it really worth it when you can get the V8 conversion for alot less and still have plenty of change leftover to tweak the power to much more than you could ever hope for out of either the turbo engine or the supercharged S2 engine - or even spend the change on modding the brakes and suspension to take the extra performance.

Scott
The best way to do ANY mods,, FIRST off the brakes + suspension,, Next remove weight,,,,THEN add more power....[;)][;)][;)]

In this case I totally agree Dave, when it comes to supercharger kits or V8 conversions the brakes and suspension also need looking at.

But we are not talking Citroen Saxo's here! The Turbo's and S2's already have pretty good spec brakes and suspension as std - certainly good enough for a modest increase in performance as long as it's all in good condition.

Thing is though ,Most Turbo,s or S2,s are over 12 years old now , so i would imagine that the suspension will need uprating anyway...
Ive fitted a set of KW,s on my S2 + it TRANSFORMED the car....[:D][:D][:D][:D]
