Supersport Cabrio production numbers

early 911

Moderator
My brother in law has bought one (quite nice it is too) . . . . any ideas on production numbers. As I understand it, the Supersport additions were an option . . . therefore it might be diffuclt/impossible to find out for definate.

Phil,
I have done a fair bit of research on Supersports and especially the Cabriolet production numbers. Your quite right no official production numbers were kept by the factory (although the US importer did keep precise figures) It was in fact only an option number 491. If you want to e-mail me your brothers chassis number and date of first reg as you might not want to post the details here, I will give you the info I have .

Hi Phil

Turbo-Look/Supersports are a bit of an enigma in many ways.

Simon's reply is good - his research is correct. The Turbo-Look story is detailed in my book, including the American numbers produced.

I know Tony wouldnt blow his own trumpet but I can !! When I wanted to buy a Supersport he gave me some excellent information on Supersports . I can recommend his book on the 3.2 carrera which I bought. All of my analysis is based on his research. What I am hoping to do over the coming months is refine this with the help of the new Reg Sec and the club to see if I can refine what is currently a best guesstimate as to the numbers of Supersports made. All of course would be in the knowledge that no official figures were kept except in the USA

Any Supersport owners out there please drop me a line

Simon

You have my support Simon. Because the widebody was only ever an option on the Carrera, there are no official records (that I can trace - with the aid of the factory) and early cars don't even have the option code listed in the handbook. The American numbers were specifically logged by PCNA and seem to be correct.

What I was hoping to do via the on-line database, was to get as many listed as possible and make an educated guess at the percentage of Turbo-Look cars on the total Carrera production numbers. My research would indicate that that's the only real chance you have.

"How many Supersports were made" .... is possibly the most common question asked.

Please keep me posted.

Thanks Tony,
I will e-mail you my analysis of your figures and your observations/comments would be much appreciated. I would like to get as near as possible with everyones help to at least a close answer
Regards
Simon
