supersport help please

Hi first post on here i am looking at getting a supersrort but im not a great fan of the whale tail has anyone seen a supersport without one or maybe have a picture of one not sure what it would look like many thanks for any replies
 
It is not a big deal to remove the whale tail either by replacing the engine cover or taking the whale tail off the original cover and then storing it (for when you sell the car).
 
I think you need to remove the front lip spoiler as well, or you will unbalance the aerodynamics. Look at a widebody Speedster.
 
Not convinced by the "both or none" spoiler viewpoint.
I believe that this was what was told'n'sold by the dealers when the cars were new, i.e. front and back spoilers or no spoilers.
My 3.2 carerra is a '85 model year car that I bought in the US in '95
It has a whale tail but either didn't have a front chin spoiler / lip or it was removed before I bought it.
I've never noticed any instability, even in Germany on unrestricted autobahns. At 110/115mph, it is fine, at 130 it still feels OK and at 145 (indicated, no GPS verification) I was worried about other things! I feel more difference from having a full vs empty fuel tank. Maybe I should put on a front spoiler and see if I feel the difference, but now UK based, I don't get up to those speeds. On the continent, I rarely went above 120 as the concentration and fuel consumption mean you stop more frequently on a long trip as opposed to sitting in the 85-110 speed range and as a result, take longer to cover the same distance.
So I wouldn't worry about removing a whale tail or other rear spoiler from a supersport, if a car is found that meets all the other criteria.
 
Lets leave personal preference re front spoiler yea or nea out of the equation, and lets have some facts:

I drive both the c3 and the 930 in Germany. The turbo with spoiler remains stable at 170 mph (GPS). The C3 with turbo spoiler same, with ducktail it is a bit light at the rear at 130mph and regains composure all the way to 153mph (GPS), and without the spoiler it is seeking, unstable and the front becomes really really light above 115 mph.

Now, in the UK you are doing 70mph max. At the end of the day, at those speeds it is not going to make a significant difference and be more anticipating when braking.

Calculations show that aerodynamic aids increase normal forces in top speed with 13 percent on
the front wheels and almost 20 percent on the rear wheels. Higher normal forces improve overall
handling since the car can handle higher forces in all directions. This makes the car less sensitive
to side winds and gives better performance both during braking and acceleration. As a bonus the
reduction in drag also increases the top speed with 2,5 km/h compared to without spoilers.
Imagine that two Porsche 911 Carreras, like the ones described above, are driven in the same
curve at a speed of 144 km/h. They both apply the brakes at the same time, the car equipped with
spoilers then stops in 5,5 seconds instead of 6,5 seconds as is the case for the car without spoilers.

You might want to put it on when doing a trackday. But I am of the school: spoilers on is front and rear, spoilers off is front and rear off.

They do look good with no rear spoiler (sorry my old 964 jubi)

Yes I have seen a SSE without the spoiler - when the original buyer ordered the car you could add as well as delete certain options.
The particular car I am talking about is not mine but is a cab so sorry do not have any photos. As previously posted not hard to remove and as also stated you would be OK for driving in UK within the law speed lemits - but if you wanted to give it the wellie you would be well advised to put it back on since these cars are rare and we dont want to loose one![;)]
 
Hi All

I have been driving my 88 Supersport Cab for 15 years without the rear "T" tray spoiler, but with front spoiler left in place. Have driven on fast roads in both France and Germany without any undue loss of stability.
I must add due to "Liability" this is only my own experience. I do feel that the car looks a lot more attractive and less agressive.on the road.

Have kept the complete lid for any future owner.( no it is not for sale[:)])

The spoilerless supersport looks as stunning as one with, there is something very pure about the clean wide arsed lines. I have seen both speedsters and an SC with spolierless wide body, so go for it :)
 
Thanks for all your replys ive decided not to just stick to a supersport will also look at normal carreras if i can find a good one which must be out there somewhere
