supersport question

I thought that I would try and do some investigative work into the "supersport" (just to satisfy my own curiosity).

Following a conversation with a fellow supersport targa owner, I was told that only the targa can really be called a "supersport" as the coupe and the cabriolet are designated "turbo bodies". Is this correct, and if so how many true "supersport" owners are out there?

At the moment I know of 2, mine (dark blue), obviously and Mac's (white) up in sunny Lancashire, but there must be many more!

Any help with this would be appreciated.

You have been sadly and grossly mislead.

The Supersport Equipment or SSE designation is for European Turbo-Look (M491) Carreras. This name was used alongside the Sport Equipment designation.

All Turbo-Look variants - Coupe, Targa and Cabriolet, are all known as Supersport.

I have a white Super Sport Coupe. Although officially I understand that they were called SE's until 1986. Mine is a Nov 85 model. It has RSR bumpers (like the Ruf BTR bumpers) and different wheels but I have all the original bumpers and wheels. In my eyes the turbo body looks excellent. Not quite sure where your friend got his information but why on earth would Super Sport only apply to a targa model when the main changes are turbo body plus suspension and brakes? I've attached a picture of the car for those interested. Only had the car for just over four weeks and have just had a cruciate ligament reconstruction in my knee which meant I couldn't drive for three weeks, so I haven't had much fun in it yet! Cheers!

Thanks Dave! We were quite lucky with the car, I spotted it on 911uk.com but found out the advert was over a year old. The guy advertising it had sold it to his brother and as luck would have it, his brother was thinking of selling it. Car has been garaged all it's life and is in pretty good nick. There is a very small amount of rust starting where the front NS wing meets the bumper but we shall be attending to this at some point. The car has also only covered 60,000 miles and seems in good mechanical health. I've attached another picture of it head on for those interested in how the bumpers look as I know there was a thread yesterday about RUF bumpers which look a little like these RSR bumpers. Anyway, back to work. Cheers
