Supporting 964 on Axle Stands

A very quick one.
Where is the best (safest) place to support the rear/front of the 964 on axle stands.
I have been using ramps to raise the car but have a job in mind that requires the wheels etc removing. I don't want to cause expensive axle stand related damage to the car.
 
I jack up one side of the car from the rear jacking point just infront of the rear wheels and fit an axle stand under the front jacking point, then lower the car and do the same the other side.

The car will now have the front in the air, so I now jack the rear up by using a trolley jack under the engine where the two crank cases meet and then place axle stands under each of the rear jacking points.

Total time 5-10 minutes maximum, just take it slowly and check the position of the stands.

Just dug up this thread to get some more information so that I can safely put the rear of the car on axle stands.

My question is; what trolley jacks can anyone recommend I buy that are low enough to get under the car and what load should they be capable of supporting? I've seen a 'sports trolley jack' but it's only rated for 1.25 tonnes - I guess this would be on the limit?

Costco do one that's low enough to get under an RS.

Failing that, cause I'm a tight git, I drive the car (front wheels) onto some ply board that gives me enough clearance for my halfrauds jack. pita sometimes tho'

I think Halfrauds are doing a special on Jacks at the moment.
Something like buy one get a free toolbox or some'at.

Don't know about sizes though

Probably a little close to the limit - you won't be lifting all the car on the jack so in theory would be ok - but I would go for a 1.5 or a 2 ton jack. A higher value lifting jack tends to be bigger, and bigger jacks tend to have tend to have a bigger footprint and so is more stable.
 
Thanks Fellas. Considering the advice given I think this one from Machinemart should do the job:

Clarke semi pro trolley jack

2 tonne lifting capacity and low minimum height to get under the car. I think I'll get new axle stands too because mine just have the simple locking pin mechanism so are not easily adjustable. Getting some ratchet axle stands would be a better move.
 
Hi there, to enable a safe and correct lift with the trolley Jack, you can purchase, for about 15 pounds Sterling a gadget that has a ball that fits into the place where your car jack normally fits, this also ensures that nothing slips.
To fit a larger trolley jack under the rear (mine is low being the turbo) I use the car jack to lift at the front of the car, then put the trolley jack under the lifted rear and then go from there, Good luck, regards Chris
 
Thanks for the tip.

Here's a photo to show that the jack I bought did the job nicely [:)]. It was just low enough to go under the engine (tray removed) without having to do any pre-jacking.
