Surging RPM at Idle ??

Hi Guys, hope you can help me. Just took my 99. 2.5 out for a blast and I seemed to have picked up a bit of a problem. When I sit at idle or the car drops to 1000rpm it bounces to 2000 and back to 1000. It does this constantly and the only way I can get it to stop is to turn the engine off. Any ideas???

There is a valve in the throttle body that can seize or become stiff. This can be cleaned to good effect. If this doesn't work, trying cleaning the MAF.

Of course the above assumes you have already checked for air leaks on you inlet!

Found the culprit !!!! I changed the MAF sensor, no change, then as I had just disconnected the throttle body from the car for a good clean, I noticed the inlet pipe to the MAF had come loose. On closer inspection I found the O-Clip had rusted away. I carried on with the throttle body and idle valve clean. Replaced the O-Clip and clean throttle body she runs like a dream now !!! Thanks for your help guys, it is appreciated
