Suspected petrol problems....

Just in case you are thinking of filling up. I filled up the better half's M3 on Thursday where "every little helps" with 99 octane. All running fine until......

Since then, the car feels absolutely terrible, rough running, really hesitant acceleration (and I mean really hesitant!) at 2k rpm. The symptoms do point to dodgy petrol. I've checked all else and no problems. I've got half a tank of fuel left at the moment. Whilst it's going to go to my dealer to be checked out, is there any mileage in filling it with BP/Shell to see if it improves?

I'm concerned the oxygen/lamda sensors could become damaged if it indeed is a contamination problem.

Anyone experienced this lately?

thanks,
Simon

Many years ago I made the mistake of putting a tankful of their standard unleaded in my 944S - and she bitched all the way through that tankful, took 2 tanks of Texaco Clean System to get her back to rights. I have never put supermarket fuel in my Porsche since - and have never had a recurrence of the problem. You should read what Honest John has said about supermarket petrol over the years!

Conversly, the same does not seem to apply to supermarket diesel. When I bought the C270 18 months ago (my first diesel for 20 years) I emailed Honest John to ask if he held the same low opinion of supermarket diesel, he was non-commital. I've used supermarket whenever I get a 5p/litre discount voucher and Shell when I don't, with no noticable difference in performance or economy!

I'm going to fill up this afternoon to see if I get some improvement, hopefully will sort it out. The car drinks fuel so it wont be long to get a couple of tankfuls through the system! The problems got noticeably worse every day to the point yesterday when my foot was flat on the go pedal in either 2nd or 3rd with a warm engine with no acceleration whatsoever.

The only other thought is a fuel injector problem but I'd imagine I'd have got move noticeable problems + warning lights.

My Porsche will never be subjected to supermarket fuel if this is what happens [:)]

Cheers,
Simon

Simon, perhaps it's a shared issue with supermarket petrol in our area. I put 1/2 tank of Sainsburys 95 into my RS6 last week and it hasn't felt right since. Power is way down and it feelsl so laggy. Will be filling up with v-power to try to rectify...

Quite a bit on supermarket fuel here. http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=541203

You've got to hope putting a couple of tanks of decent fuel through will resolve the problem. Otherwise, there may be motor damage and this could be expensive! [:(]

Good luck.

Regards,

Clive

This is what I'm fearing chaps. I've put in at least half a tank of BP ultimate this afternoon and the car is starting to feel better on acceleration but still not 100%. Let's see after a complete tank.

Cheers,
Simon

I found my e92 loved V Power but hated everything else.

A small update - Car is feeling better after the half tank of Ultimate but I do need to totally get rid of any remains of the supermarket "stuff" I have in the tank and get a complete tankful of good fuel. At the rate the car guzzles that will be tomorrow (again!). [:)]

Cheers,
Simon
