Suspension Advice

Hi Guys

Has anyone replaced the front and rear bushes on the front A-Arms? Any top tips?

The front bushes are around £10 each but the rear.....wait for it..... I have been quoted from £95 upto £200 each for an original Porsche part....

Can this be right?

Apparantly 65-67 for the front suspension rear bushes are in "short supply"

According to the Porsche Manual you cannot replace the rubber bush alone, you have to replace the complete wishbone. Having said that the front and rear bushes are listed on their parts list! Unique to 65-67 cars

I had mine replaced (rear 68) so it can be done. They were a bit 'experimental' at the time but seem to be holding up well. I have had them for about three years now. Its a tricky job to do and not one for the DIY'er in my opinion. Speak to Steve at Jaz they did mine... say I said 'hi'!

Thanks guys.

I have done some further checking and it can be done.

However the original Porsche rear bushes really do cost £200 each for the 65-67 model!!

oh I wish i kept on to that set now...... £48 for all 4 I Nick yes I have a 69 and D911 sent out the wrong ones...

oh well.

I was told that those rear bushes are a pain i am looking in to a kit that weltmiester sell that makes things alittle easier Rodger Bray sells it it looks good.

I have replaced all the suspension bushes on my 2.7 Carrera with Weltmeister polyurethane bushes. It is a pig of a job as the original bushes are vulcanised to the control arms and rear spring plates. It took an mixture of hacksawing, burning and wire brushing to get the old rubber off. Then each new bush has to be hand fitted by grinding and sanding. Not a nice job, although a lathe would have made it much easier.

I haven't done the job on a early car yet so I am interested to hear the final result.

I plan to do this later next year on the rear. I have the 4 shocks to do first.

keep you all posted

Nick, have you driven a car with those urethane bushes before? In the past I've read that the competition bush materials can be pretty squeaky, but I guess there are various compounds available.. would be interested to hear, as I too will have to do the rears sooner or later...

I too have heard they squeek, but have no pesonal experience as my car is not on the road yet. There are plenty of threads on PP describing how to fix the squeeks with grease nipples etc.

Dave Hillman has just fitted these to his car, he seems to think they are good
