Suspension Alignment

Look what we did to Beaky yesterday. [:)] Or more accurately look what Pete at Motorpreparation did yesterday while I shouted words of encouragement and polished things under my car.

Considerable encouragement was required as all of the rear adjustment was dirty and furry and needed dismantling and cleaning before it would move. Still, it should be much easier next time.

Was rather hoping for a bit more neg camber at the front but that was all the adjustment we had.

We did the rear first and couldn't be asked to reduce the camber subsequently to match the front so have put the rear anti roll bar on its most vicious of setting to try to dial out any understeer.

I've not had a chance to really drive the car much since, apart from cruising around the M25 afterwards which doesn't count, but it does feel completely different.

Strangely the steering feels lighter but far more stable. It seems to take a deliberate effort to make the car change direction which it then does readily. After getting used to how the car felt previously I am having a job to understand what it is telling me now. Much gentle experimentation will now follow as I have a nasty feeling that he will grip like a limpet right to the point where he lets go with very little warning. One needs to understand where that point is so that I stay well away from it.

John,

the changes you have made although not significantly adrift of the std set up will definitely improve the way the car handles-----thru the corners. Given the increase in camber at the front this obviously affects the feel of the steering in a staight line ie lighter but the steering will feel slightly heavier as you turn in and as the car leans.

A bit more castor angle will make the steering a bit heavier and also give you more camber as the steering is turned entering a corner.

Most of the Club racers set max castor so that camber can be optimised without compromising straightline stability and braking effectiveness too much.

what was not clear from the datasheet was ride height settings, were these left at std?
