My story from a visit to Chris Franklin at Center Gravity in the UK (long):
Booked in for a basic geo setup, knowing full well that Chris was likely to confirm that my front dampers (at least) were shot.
My 964 had been lowered and had cup 1's fitted prior to me collecting the car almost a year ago. Had never been happy with the ride, or handling so let Chris have a go at it.
Turns out that my targa was running slightly lower than an RS! This meant the ride height was not allowing Chris to get anywhere sensible measurements. He recommended that we raise the ride height to something close to MO30 sport setup, and see what we can achieve after that.
The low ride height was obviously preventing the old dampers from doing any work. Starting at the back, the spring height adjusting collar moved no problem, and was raised 30mm. Moving to the front, no way would the collar move. This left 2 choices. First ideally replace the damper, but finances and short availablity didn't allow this.
This left us with removing the strut and hack sawing off the seized collar. Luckily Chris had 2 spare collars in the workshop. This was going to mean a long day.
Strut removed, new collar fitted, and strut re-fitted. Height adjusted accordingly. Same process applied to the other side left the car sitting higher but still looking good. More importantly, Chris was able to get some sensible figures, and allowed us get a test drive.
Those who have visted Chris know what this entails. In my case, due to the late hour, it was shorter but still enlightening! What a difference it made. Getting back in the drivers seat for the return to the workshop, it was obvious from the first corner that the car had been transformed. Amazing what a difference changing a few angles makes to the car. The ride, even with shot front dampers was also much better due to the increased ride height.
Chris is a magician, and works his socks off. Arrived at 8.30am, and finally left at 11.25pm for the 1 1/2 hour drive home! Pocket was feeling lighter, but the best money I've spent on the car so far.
Go on do it. You know you want to.
