Looking at upgrading suspension on my 91000mile 993 c2,porsche shop cataloge sell replacement bilstien dampers and lowered springs(135quid) or you can get koni/eibach kits also h+r kits for over a grand.
Is the extra cost worth it? i will be doing a few visits to the ring.

If you are going for a fixed set of dampers then get the Bilstein HD's from Carnewal. Nobody cheaper when I got the a couple of months ago.

Don't rate Eibach, but if you want lower springs get the H&R ones.

On no account get suckered into just replacing the springs, maybe cheaper but it will screw up the handling of the car as you will have dampers and springs that are not matched. The suspension mod of Bilstein HD's and H&R springs is one of the best things you can do and will transform the car. The UK equivalent to the Bilstein HD is the B6. If you contact Mark (Porkapig), he had a contact who was doing a very good price but just could not get stock when I was looking. Having said that Gert at Carnewal is superb and does a very quick delivery.

One last point when you lay the OEM Monroe or Boge damper next to the Bilstein it is embarrassing at the poor quality of the OEM ones.

Cheers for that,i spoke to steve(i think) at jz machtech, and he recommended the h&r/bilstien kit 1200quid plus vat, with fitting and geometry it all came to just under 2k,seems like a decent bloke,he rang my mobile back because he was busier earlier, his prices dont seem too bad either, looks like i will be booking in ,in a couple of weeks.

Angry,

You may have misunderstood, Carnewal will supply the dampers and springs delivered to your house for approx. £700 and that includes the Belgian tax. If you then add labour and alignment on top you are looking at about another £300.

So that is £1000 against £2000 being quoted by JZM. Why are you going there[&:]

Right, thick i know but i am getting a bit confused by all the options,so on carnewal the kit im looking at is the p93 lowering springs with hd shocks,is that correct or is it one of the other options. And who would you get to fit them(300 quid)?
Other options include the kit with the bigger stabilizer bars and stuff,is this worth the extra?
Also sombody has fitted 17 inch cup1s to the car that have a really deep offset and wondered if this would effect the kit.
Cheers for your help, sorry about all the ?s

This is the kit I bought

P93 Lowering Springs with HD Shocks
For every '94 to '98 C2 and C4 including the "S" models with the standard suspension.
Lowers the car 1" to 1 1/2" from standard.
The front HD shocks have 30mm extra thread so they allow more lowering than the normal Bilstein HD shocks.
Click here to see a detail of the front shocks.
The Bilstein HD shocks can accept standard, M030 and Rennsport stabilizer bars.

Although I did not get the extra 30mm thread version as it is not required unless you want to drop to RS height which then leads to other items needing to be replaced because of the height and they are cheaper as well.

Any competent mechanic could fit them, it is a DIY job if you have the space and tools. Only remember the laser alignment.

The ARB will tighten things up and the bushes are there in case your original bushes need replacing, It will tighten up the ride, but I did not do it this time and have been delighted with the improvement in ride and control.

Just a note on the H+R option JZM do.

They told me it was different to the std HD route or the std H+R kit in that the set up was more road biased with softer springs and dampers.

Has anyone experience of this set up?

Is the Bilstein HD set up much harsher than the Monroes?

I am looking to uprate my std suspension as the rear dampers are goosed but don't use the car for track work beyond an annual Nurburgring trip so don't want it too stiff or low.

If you want a lot of feedback on the Bilstein/H&R mod supplied by Carnewal go to the Rennlist 993 forum. A massive number of 993 owners have done this upgrade and as far as I am concerned has transformed my car on the road. If it is track based setup you are looking for consider the Pss9's or the KW stuff. You just cannot put the Munroe damper in the same league as the Bilstein HD's.

The problem is that you do not realise how bad the car is handling as the degradation of the dampers happens slowly. Although my dampers were not totally knackered I could feel the handling of the car beginning to go.

968er,ive ordered that kit from carnewal, should be here soon,i also got the m030 stabiliser kit and the cars booked in to jzm 28th april for fitting and setup, alignment and also a quick run on the rolling road to check shes running as she should be.....cant wait[:D]
