Suspension question

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum and indeed Porsche ownership.
I have an 89 3.2 Carrera Targa SE bought to satisfy an itch/mid-life crisis. Amongst the various options it has 474 which are Sports Shock absorbers(Bilsteins)...BUT the ones fitted to my car are not, they are Boge. I know for a fact that they were not fitted by either of the PO's so they must be factory fitted.
Are they sports shocks? or has someone been conned?

Thanks guys,
Yes the colour is black not green and they have BOGE stamped on the casing so they are certainly Boges.
The option code is 474. Depending on where you look this is shown either as sports shock absorbers , or sports shock absorbers (bilstein).
Looking through the history file, the previous owner wrote to Porsche Cars GB to confirm the original specification and their letter simply says Sports Shock absorbers. I also found a thread on the Pelican site and a guy in Brazil had come across this and confirmed that in the later run of 3.2's Porsche used both Boge and Bilstein sports shocks.
Maybe I'll paint them green![:'(]
regards
Graham

Graham,

I have a 1986 LHD model, that was sold I believe as a Carrera SE on the continent (same as a Sport in the UK?). It has the front and rear spoilers, 16" Fuchs, twin engine lid struts and Boge Struts. Spoke to Porsche who confirmed this as the 'Sport' spec for Europe.

In Paul Frere 911 Story, it says :-

"From 1986 models on, gas-filled, twin tube Boge GZ dampers became standard on Carreras.

Just my 2p worth !

Paul,
I'm imagine the suspension on your car is due a replacement if it hasn't been done since new and that's why your little girl gets sick.

I had mine done recently and fitted Bilstein sport shocks (green), which are slightly harder than normal but give a good ride
