Suspension upgrade

Today I have started first step up revitalising my original suspension through buying a GAZ Gold coilover set, hooray!

I will also need to replace all bushes as these also are from 1991. I am just wondering what will be the best compromise for my car which is driven in 5-7 track days a year but also must be used for nice day driving with the family and an occasional trip to Paris, Berlin or what/where ever.

What are the experiences with Polyflex, Superflex etc.? I am a bit afraid that they will be to harsh for daily driving and I have also heard a bit of slacking og this type bushes as not moving freely enough.

Are OE bushings better - and if yes must it then be the 944 M030 or 968 standard bushes?

I am sure that many here have been in the same situation as myself und will be happy to hear your experiences.
Also if you know where to buy cheapest I will of course be happy to hear :)

Best wishes for the new motoring year to all

/Niels

For your useage I would recommend just the standard OE bushes. They will be a vast improvement over your worn out 20 year old pieces of rubber. I would steer clear from the aftermarket bushes unless your car was more dedicated to the track and I fear they would make your Cabrio less than comfortable for normal road use

As Paul is suggesting: something has to give. Better new OEM bushes than your torsional rigidity.

I've currently taken a different route going with poly-bushes, 968 rear mount using new standard oem struts/shocks. I'll report back on how hard this setup is on the road. One thing I've noticed is how inefficient the old struts were are after 100K on the clock. I found Design911 to be good on prices, although make sure they know the exact setup for your car when ordering bushes.

Dear Wibble, seems interesting. I have also heard of Delrin being used by some companies but don't know if that is better than Polyflex. Cheers Niels

Delrin is an engineering plastic (a trade name, in actual fact). It may be used by all of the 'polybush' manufacturers, or none, of course.

Delrin is acetal from memory (worked in plastics industry a long time ago) That wouldnt be used for bushes, it is tough but completely rigid plastic, not flexible like poly bushes or rubber

There are bushes and there are bushes IIRC they have a shore rating and not all are alike Cheaper ones are rock hard with little resilience and will transfer loads into the subframe/chassis with potential fatigue issues.

Yup, shore rating dictates how hard or soft they are. From memory the lower the number, the softer they are but then I think you get A, B and C ratings too, just to confuse things!

ORIGINAL: Hilux Morning Hairyarse I see you are restoring a 1983 Mk 1 I have a track day 1983 Mk1 [:)]
I am indeed! It's a sloooow process[;)] You'll find me on Mk1 Golf OC too, helped set that up in 2004. Were you on there with same user name? It rings bells

Just got back on it before Christmas after 18 months of nothing

Me too - finding time is the issue. Same name on all my forums. Current problems with injector trigger from ECU (ABF into Mk1) See you at a meet somewhere.

Can't help you I'm afraid with that one Paul, I'm a bit of a standard geek so knowledge is limited on mods. Have you tried MK1 forum for answers?

2 days solid testing and I now think its an intermittent break somewhere in the injector permanent positive
