Although I ahven't tried them back to back on my own car, when I was looking for a car I drove 2 different cars within a day of each other. One had done 46000 miles and was on original suspension and one was the car I had bought (52000miles) that had all new suspension, bushes etc (standard) within the last 2000 miles. There is no doubt at all that the car I bought drove considerably better. It felt very different and it was clear that it was just a lot sharper. Steering was better and the car felt like it had a better sorted chassis all round. The higher milage car just felt newer.
It is possible that some of the improvements were due to better geometry, although the other car had its geometry checked about 4000 miles before. I suspect, though, that the main improvement came from new bushes rather than anything else although if your struts and springs are shagged, you will really notice the difference as well.
I admit I have never driven a car with the 993 RS front struts but I do remain sceptical. I believe that too many people are sucked in by myth rather than actual fact. After all I had read about the 964 RS I was really suprised about how good the suspension set up was and how it was far more suited to road use than I had been led to believe. My brother, who succesfully sprints Caterham's, is of the same view. I think it all depends what your benchmark is. I would also expect that for serious competition use, the standard suspension is too soft!
