Hi

I'm a new member looking for a nice original early 911 c1968 SWB for road use and I've got various opinions from traders etc about values but not from owners and so I would be very grateful for your opinion. I've got a budget of approx £24k, so what would that get in today's market place?
 
There was a lovely RHD 68T at the Silverstone Bonhams auction at the end of July that could have been bought for that figure. The market for these cars is so small that it is very difficult to generalise. Recent sales include a nice LHD 68S at £30K, a RHD 67S requiring a respray sold at under £30K. There is a LHD 68 at Retro Motor Company for £14.5K. £24K should buy a nice car, finding it will be the difficulty.

you won't regret buying buying a early 911, fantastic fun.

Hopefully your'll have joined our ranks just in time to see the revival of the early 911 register [8D]

Don`t be disheartened by the early 911 forum argy bargy, when you need any help or info there`s always
plenty of willing people on hand

Great to hear from you all. Thanks for the advice and links.

I've been offered a very well cared for, unrestored, unmolested USA car, owned by PCA members, which over the past few years has been mechanically rebuilt (though non-original engine but correct age and spec) for £26k. Does this seem acceptable or too high?
 
That depends on the model and year. Do you have the colour/trim, what was done in the rebuild, is there any rust?
 
Its a 1968 2.0L in sand brown with factory fitted A/C, radio, (both working) FUCHS, over-riders. Its claimed to be rust free and the previous owner who I tracked down in the US also confirmed this. The gearbox, brakes, engine, suspension have been rebuilt. The first owner had it 20 yrs, the second 13 yrs, and 2 other owners since - who also own other Porsche's. All the interior is original and extremely good for a 40yr old car. It has S/S exhaust and heat exchangers.
 
Any views on what would be the recommended service intervals for an early car? Every 3000 miles, once a year or every 3 months??

 
No one is really going to be able to offer great advice on an unseen car, make sure you get it inspected by a qualified/knowledgeable Porsche 911 expert (not the new cars) before you consider it, best money you will ever spend.
 
Julian is trying to tell you that if the car has corrosion in the usual places (and almost all do) then the body shell repairs and repaint could cost £20,000. USA origin does not mean that it has lived its life in a dry desert atmosphere.
Get it checked!
