Anyone know where I can source some Swepco 201 in or around North London/Enfield?

No expert but, Isnt a lighter synthetic oil is normally recomended for the G50?, I know Swepco works better with the earlier gearboxes due to the higher friction.

I changed my 915 over to swepco and it was definatley better, its hard to compare old for new but the oil that was in there previously didnt seem that old when it came out..

I had a gear box oil change at Jaz 18 months ago, not sure what they used but will be to the recommended standard.
There's nothing wrong with the gear box but heard lots of good press about Swepco so thought I'd give it a go.
As my car will be in the tech area at Brands on Sunday the idea is to get them to change it as a demo but I just can't get hold of any oil, Type911 who do stock it are shut on Saturdays, so might need to go to plan B...............I haven't got a plan B, any idea's?

Shirish

Against all the physics, I have been runnning Swepco 201 in my G50 for a couple of yrs now and as reported several times on the forum, it made my changes so much better. My car has a slightly sluggish change, when cold, from 1st to 2nd. The Swepco really sorted out what I thought was a "dead cert" new Synchro

Works well in the G50 (although most people suggest it is even better in the 915)

Was not sure when my gear oil had last been changed so thought I would flush it first with Halfords (not so cheap) stuff. (The old oil was very black and smelly).

I defo noticed the differance with the new Halfords stuff, so ran it for approx 200 miles and then replaced it with the Swepco 201. (Still a few traces of black crap after the second drain).

Result being... Nothing (between the two oils) !!! A smoother gear change with both oils. I couldnt notice the differance between the Halfords and Swepco ! Are we just paying for the name. I suppose time will tell.

I think you'll find that Porsche specify a spec rather than a brand.

Check your handbook, it's probably 75w-90 synthetic GL4 or GL4/GL5

Swepco now installed, will provide some feedback once I've given her a good work out.
My good news was the old oil was still spotlessly clean, nothing on the magnet, so gerabox seems to be in good fettle......hope I just haven't bocked myselve

Anyone reading this, I recommend using Silkolene Silktran syn. It's a fully synthetic race transmission oil. I use it in my 915 gearbox and it's fantastic. I've heard people say negative things about putting synthetic oil in these boxes but I've nothing but good things to say and it's transformed my gearbox. It's available from Opie oils, as above, see Oilman. I'd also recommend the Silkolene engine oils. I've used them for a while now and they are excellent. Cheers

Swepco more suited to the earlier 915 box.

Mobil 1 generally accepted to be the oil for the G50 (as in your car).

As ever though a lot comes down to personal choice. I wouldn't rush out and replace your Swepco with Mobil.
