Swiming Pool in the boot and fumes in cabin

Hi folks

Noted that the side compartments in the boot filing with water when it rains or cleaning the car, I'm also getting what I believe to be exhaust fumes in the car but no sound of blowing exhaust. The hatch won't open either although I can hear the mechanism working.

My initial thought are the tailgate seals, could I be sucking exhaust fumes in? Would that account for the issues?

Do I replace both or one at a time and where is the best place to get them

Thanks again

Sounds like the hatch seal., the one that goes all around the hatch.

The pin seals are usually not too bad but the catches will need removing cleaning and maybe resetting.

Failed tailgate seals cause fumes in the cabin particularly if you have the window open. The seal is one piece. Another culprit could be the tail light seals which are a type of black mastic.

I'd check all round the hatch seal to see if there is any daylight showing as both latch pins need setting together to close the hatch all round but suggest strip the latches and clean out the crud making sure the drain tubes are clear and located properly.

The drain tube just under the fuel cap came off on mine the other day, let lots of water into the drivers side rear boot area.

Thanks Peeps

All drainage lines/bungs in place and clear, going with rear light seals first as car recently resprayed mastic not replaced. One unit has couple broken stud/fittings which wont help
