Darker colours always show these marks so much more (I have black and dark blue cars). Depending how deep these marks are you should be able to remove or hide them with a good polishing. You need to follow one of the three step cleaning processes that most of the good car cleaning companies will sell (Incero, Zymol, Meguiars etc). I personally use Zymol and have removed many minor scratches with their HD-Cleanse product

First wash and dry the car.

Then polish the paintwork (HD-Cleanse) which will remove all impurities on the paint and reduce the swirls (maybe even a claybar)

Finally apply a good wax which will hide the swirls even more and protect the paintwork as well as making it nice and shiney [:D]

Never ever polish in a circular motion, always polish back and forth following the direction of the car

I too can recomend Zymol products although they are not the cheapest. On previous darker cars I have also used Meguiars Scratch X to remove swirls.

I use raceglaze Crem Perfection No 4 RACEGLAZE which is specifically designed for dark colours as it has no residue, its a fraction of the cost of other well known brands and as it contains carnauba wax it fills scratches over time, meguiers is another carnauba based product which is relatively inexpensive also..........if you have money to burn then Zymol it is [;)]

If the scratches are actually scratches then the scratchx is a fine abrasive and then polish over the top with a carnauba based product

Quote from raceglaze website...........

Natural Carnauba Wax Polish

Crem Perfection is a 'Non Sealant' Cream polish. It contains pure, natural Brazilian Carnauba Palm Wax, natures hardest wax, in a unique, hand made, easy to apply formula. Crem Perfection buffs up quickly, leaving no watery marks or thick chalky deposits, even around black trim and rubber. Its gentle liquid cleaning formula removes fine surface scratches whilst the Palm wax actually "˜fills in' the swirl marks, to give a much deeper, richer colour. It can revitalise weathered paintwork and is ideal for all the following paint types: Acrylic, Cellulose, Synthetic, Two pack, Lacquered, Metallic and Glassfibre gel coat. Crem Perfection has been especially formulated for the more critical paint shades such as red, dark metallics and black. Particularly recommended for the newer, softer, water based paint finishes. Free applicator pad included. Many of the world's leading manufacturers actually recommend using Canauba Wax. What more can we say.

Thanks Maurice and Elliot for the last 2 replies.

I have been using Meguiars ScratchX and found that incredible for removing the fine scratch marks, after 3~4 goes with that stuff and the car has a really nice smooth finish to it. So the next things will be a good wax to finish it off.

Thanks for all the help guys !

And just to ad dmy 2p worth - I have tried Zymol but fiound that the waxing stage was tiresome as the wax does not 'go off' and is hard work to remove. I now use swissol which is the same sort of process (clean first then wax) and they do a 911 wax which i think is 40% carnuba and although expensive lasts for ages. Their wax actually 'dries' but does not leave a white residue.

Agree about the Meguirs scratch remover - have used that on Carbon Black BMW which is a nightmare to keep clean and it works well.
