Switch connectors in the centre console

Evening Folks,
I removed the centre console and radio from the car today to give me better access to some of the wiring there (and to try and troubleshoot the lack of sound coming from the drivers door speaker). My console has 2 switches (mirrors and rear wiper) and a red LED, however when I pulled the console out there are 4 black multiplug connectors with cables marked 1 through to 4. Two of these are connected to the switches, but I wondered what the other 2 are for ?

There is also a large red plug there - again I wondered what this is meant to be connect to.

The red LED has a cable coming from it which I guess goes to the alarm - haven't noticed if this works yet.

Thanks in advance,
Andy

Yes - apologies for that ! I'll put one on shortly.

Have been looking through the parts catalogue and think I know what the 4 black multi plugs are for now, but will check the wiring colours. Think they are for options that my car doesn't have (sunroof and factory central locking). The red plug could be for the speaker fader, though mine has an aftermarket unit so could be why that isn't present.

I’m sure you should have central locking, I was under the impression that all had that, but I could well be wrong, every day is a school day

Yes I've never seen a 944 without central locking, it is in fact the only button that illuminates in the console.

Illuminates,,,,,,, Illuminates, OMG I have missed something here, mine is as black and dark .......................

Well, maybe, maybe not! It illuminates with a sizeable red dot when the doors are locked, not when doors are open when its distinctly not illuminated!!

Other lesser seen illuminatory cabin sights in a series 2 944 are the headlight switch, the ashtray light and the little demist light top centre of the centre vents. All of mine of course illuminate!! I'm sure the 968 is the same.

Thanks for all the replies. I've looked further into central locking being standard for my model/year and from what I can see it wasn't standard as there was a functionality issue with the Porsche Script door handles (which I have). The lock actuators fitted to mine don't look like the ones in the manual and spares catalogue and connect directly to the aftermarket Gemini alarm system (traced the wires today). This allows the doors to be locked remotely using the alarm remote. There's no microswitch in the door handles/latches that activates the central locking. Photos below show the solenoid out the door & fitted.

Going back to the centre console query, here's a photo of what I have...

Hope all the images work !

oh my

the fairy butcher of door skins and wiring has visited you car,

the one with the blue and green and numbered 1 looks like the fader switch, and the one numbered 4 looks like the central locking switch,

i think someone took all the Porsche locking stuff off when the alarm was fitted, but i would want a second opinion from the others,

Thanks Waylander,

Yes there seems to have been a lot of creative wiring done in the car over the years ! There are also a few cables that have simply been cut under the bonnet and some plugs not connected to anything. Plenty to keep me occupied over the Winter I guess !

At least I've managed to get the doors to lock remotely again (combination of disconnected cables and a failed actuator) and the electric windows switches now work following wiring repairs to similarly 'butchered' window wiring. Next up are the door mirrors (motors to be replaced) and the drivers door speaker (another cable issue)...
