Tailgate problem

Went to open the tailgate yesterday & the motorised release sound came, & it lifted slightly but then wouldn't open. Used the manual release after climbing in the back and had a look.

It seems that the catch on the tailgate will just not release with the solenoide but works manually, the bit in the boot floor works ok, interestingly enough the rear window will not open either. I checked fuse 30 which seems to be the one & it was ok. I also checked all the connections which again seemed fine.

Anyone any ideas or had similar issues....also would it show up with a diagnostic code at the dealers? any advice welcomed.

hey there ..

i had something similar last month on my 2005 cayenne s ..
porsche were confused and unable to diagnose, however the penny finally dropped for me ..
i went in to the 'set-up' menu via the wiper stalk and changed the door opening settings .. hey presto i can now open my boot and glass hatch ! ..

good luck ..

Interesting! never thought of that, I'll give it a go later & see... Thanks

Well tried that last night unfortunately even with the 'factory reset', still doesn't work.... Anyone any other ideas?

Problem now sorted...

Seems that there are micro switches within the catch in the tailgate and as I had tried to close this with a bit of an obstical in the way the catch was moved out of line, which in turn caused the micro switch thing inside to short out & blow fuse No.30.

Re alignment of the catch seems to have sorted the matter. Interestingly enough it didn't look out of line & I initially checked the fuse which seemed fine (should have got the meter out!) Moral of the story... make sure your loads not too long before closing.

Many thanks to Pete Corby (VW Audi & ex Lancaster Porsche specialist) for his expert eye. Can highly recommend him.
Not sure if its against forum rules, (apologies if it is & mods please remove if necessary)... but if anyone has the need for a good specialist he can be contacted on 07798 625199
