Tails I lose

Hi everyone
I have a small problem with the tail on my 993 targa, when out driving, the tail will come up as usual at 50 mph but will not go down when stopped, even with the internal switch, but if I leave the car standing for a short while and use the internal switch again, it closes down until the next trip out, where the same thing happens again. I recently got carried away and cleaned the engine bay, could I have disturbed or pulled something out? Any comments would be gratefully received
Regards and Happy Xmas to all

Steve,

I did tell you, if you kept cleaning it, it would break....... Seriously thought, I have no idea what is wrong, but best wishes for Christmas.

Charlie

Thanks Charlie
You're right, thats enough cleaning for this year!! And since I posted; the tail's decided not to go down at all now . So unless somebody has any ideas, it sounds like a trip to our friends at Porsche Bournemouth. Still I do get a free cappuccino.

Hello Steve ,
does the warning light come on ?
May just be the sensor switch needs adjusting .
Mat

My 964 had spoiler probs, i found that the centre console switch was a bit unclean inside it, stripped and lubed and was all okay afterwards.
My probs started on the road back from LM when i noticed the tail had parked itself in the lid when about 80mph !

if the 993 is similar to the 964 then its controlled by many things, there is a spoiler control box above the pass. feet that also had dodgy soldering, also check your up/down microswitches in the lid

As i said this is 964 im talking about, i dont think much changed but i could be wrong [;)]

if you hunt www.rennlist.com there are many answers there.............

Hi Matt and Elliot
I have'nt noticed the warning light come on but will check sensor anyway. I will also check switches within lid and on console. Thanks guy's , all information gratefully received. Will let you know how I get on .
Regards
Steve

Steve, My 993 Carrera 4 is equipped with an on board computer which gives you speed in MPH, average speed ,total miles travelled on fuel in tank , fuel info. etc.
If I have the computer set to anything other than speed in MPH , the spoiler will not retract when coming to a halt. If I switch back to MPH from say the average speed setting , it works fine . Does this make sense ? Have you got your computer set other than on MPH ?

If you have steam cleaned the b-jesus out of it , it may just need all the pivot points lubing , and as it was working for a while after , the pivot points probably got drier and drier to the point of popping a fuse . You may want to try spraying the electrical connector as well ,

Hi Tony
I have just put the computer back on mph, I didn't realise it made any difference but will be trying out just as soon as I can get some fuel. ( see next post )
Many thanks
Steve

Matt
I haven't steam cleaned the engine but hand polished and cleaned off all deposits etc, but I have sprayed electrics up just in case. Will keep you posted.
Many thanks

Maurice
Thanks for technical info. I have read this, printed and added to my files.

Best wishes
Steve B

Chaps,
If any one interested ,I have a brand new spoiler(Polar silver) and new motor for sale, will split.
I'll accept any reasonable offer.

(sorry to post here but seemed to be on topic)

John

Sorry Maurice, I misunderstood the message. You're quite right, I should have twigged. ( not on the same wavelength, I put it down to christmas spirit ) Ill use the info to test out components, and hope it's something simple. ( like me!! )
Many thanks
Steve

Hi all
I have lubricated / tested components, all seemed ok. It would seem Tony was right, after changing the computer back to mph , the tail now behaves as it should. ( How weird is that!! ) Whether quirk or design I don't know, but it now works. So I'll leave well alone and hope that's it. Thanks all for comments and suggestions. HAPPY NEW YEAR
