Talivan detection

My local constabulary must have purchased a new toy, cos I've passed the mobile speed camera 3 times in 2 weeks. This weekend I was at full chat, wrong side of the road, safely overtaking a couple of sunday drivers. Its a fair (?) cop guv ....

Can these blessed things be detected?? I have a roadangel but that just does fixed units. Do these vans give out detectable laser signals? I've tried checking some of the specialist sites but cant get the answer.

Yes, they give out a laser signal and it can be both detected and jammed. There will be devices on the GPS/Speed Detection sites that can do this.

If you keep your Road angel database up to date it will tell you about mobile units as well.

is this a new addition? last time I updated (4 weeks ago) it didn't add mobile sites or do I have to change some settings?
TIA
Andrew

Andrew,

My Road Angel has always been able to tell me whether I am coming up to a mobile or fixed site and as far as I was aware this was a standard feature.

My road angel does'nt download mobile sites either. How can it do that when mobile sites are changing constantly? What it does do is download 'black spots' which may be areas where you find mobile cameras but there are plenty of other mobile camera sites in my area which it does'nt identify. My road angel supposedly has laser detection as well but I would'nt trust that either as, by the time it warns you, you've been zapped anyway. The only way to avoid mobile camera detection is with a jammer which will be illegal shortly or, of course, sticking to the limit!

Mobile sites are actually fixed sites visited in random order. Each site requires planning permission and should be listed on your local authority web site.

Also from the Road Angel site:

With new fully integrated GPS and Laser technology, ROAD ANGEL alerts you to: accident blackspots, safety cameras (including Gatso,TruVelo, SPECS, Watchman, Speedcurb, DS2) and mobile laser guns; with an audible, visual and voice alerts.

And can you pick and choose which ones to switch off cos that lot would drive anyone to the point of distraction!

My RoadAngel tells me about mobile sites.

You can also put a site into your own personal database if you press the appropriate set of buttons. You need to be at the site, though, and the combination is fun at 30mph...!

Actually the jammer is already illegal. It is the active radar detector which is due to become illegal shortly if the government and the traffic taliban get their way.
(if however you get an active laser sensor for your garage door you will in theory be able to use a "jammer" with impunity [:)] )

The sad fact is by the time a laser detector picks up a signal it is 99% certain that you have already been done!! Unlike radar the beam of light is so thin & tightly focused that you rarely pick up any refection until the beam comes for you!
You can get an add on lazer detector for the road angel, or a separate radar/lazer detector, but neither will likely save you.
The only thing that DOES appear to work is the Lazer jammer, but as David says this is illegal...... if they find it, I do know of certain owners of Pork who have used them for years without problems, but I suppose it is still a risk!!

As also mentioned, car manufacturers are now selling new cars with "coming home function" which will open garage doors & also jam lazer guns........sounds like a damn good idea, but only available on 997/987 series Pork!
