Talk me out of it

Suffolk944

So I have got myself a goodly lump of money that I have been intending on sinking into my 944 - namely getting more power, better brakes and uprated suspension.

Thing is I have this nagging voiec in my head telling me what I really want is a change in the shape of a 928 (manual preferably). Guess its the whole V8 thing...

I really like my '44 and have no doubt it will be even better once the money is spent but do have doubts as

1) Its money I will never recoup

2) With congestion, speed cameras etc these days is more POWER really worth spending a large amount on ? I have invested in some previously but was a relatively modest outlay compared with the next stage.

So then - why should I stick with the 944 and splash the cash on it ?

928 is a very different car - all hairy-chested boulevard cruiser or continent-crossing mile muncher depending on your viewpoint....[&:]

I agree with you about the need for extra power, needing more braking and better suspension, then needing even more power and on and on. To be honest I'm quite settled on restoring my Lux over getting an S2 because you just don't need anything faster in the real world. Track use is something else.

I reckon you'd have more fun by fitting narrow tyres, or find a set of P6000s. I can have a whale of a time in mine on damp roads without ever going fast enough to get points....[:)]

As Gregson said, the cost of keeping a 944t in good order pales into insignificance compared to the electrical complexities of a 928...

Would love a 928 GT though....[:D]

You should get someone to take you for a spin in a turbo with more tuning than yours, then go to a local porsche meet and get someone to take you for a spin in the 928,i reckon if you have a good 44 turbo stick with it, sink some more dough in it and wet your pants with laughter when you come on with some serious boost![:D][:D]The 44 turbo i reckon is one of the most tailorable(is that a word??) Porsches out there,it can be a mild mannered janitor or hong kong phooey(remember the cartoon??)

well after a 944 Lux and a 90 S2 I went for a 928.
It is a nightmare. very fast very powerful 0-60mph+ in first gear ! but hey where's that tank full of petrol gone I put in yesterday ?!!!

Loved the sound of the V8 but the handling was rubbish compared to any of the 944's I have had .It cornered like a huge whale .

Everything is so old fashioned . The wiring is a complete nightmare. All the fuses and relays on a strip of old plywood wedged into the passenger footwell. Mine had bullet connectors throughout which were corroded . It really needed a complete re-wire with a modern loom and connector system.

It would be a great third project car for occasional use but not a serious second car in my opinion.

I sold mine and bought another S2 She's my baby . so much better than the 928 in so many ways.

Thanks for all the input [:)]

Have slept on it one final time and have decided to keep her and splurge the cash on giving her a good tweaking.

Consequently I am taking her along to Dr Promax tomorrow - plan being that all will be done and dusted in time for Frontrunner [:D]

Well the car was duly dropped off at Promax. Got an email from Andy today saying that the compression test on the engine has shown a problem with cylinder number 4 [:(] Am braced for the results of further investigation tomorrow. [&o]. The condition of the piston crown or bore may have something to do with it it seems...
