What oil do you run in it?? 8v or 16v engine? I run 15w50 Mobile1 motorsport in my 2.7 lux and it is very quiet actually - wondering if your oil is a little thin. Another thing that makes me think that is the 2br on idle for the oil preasure.. Mine never gets lower than 3 - and 3 is when I have been driving it like my ass is on fire!!.. Normal driving and its up at 4. Personally I dont like these flushing fluids - I believe that good clean oil changed regularly and you shouldnt need them. Cheers p.s. - sorry that actually didnt help with the how to remove the tappets did it

A good way to tell is pull off the plastic cover from the fuel rail, they get really loud then.ORIGINAL: edh are you sure it's a tappet & not injectors? (this may be a dumb question, so apologies in advanc, but the injectors can be quite noisy)
I have a noisy tappet.. its quite annoying.
Its been there since I bought the car and I have probably covered 1000 miles since purchasing. I hoped an oil change would help out but after dropping the oil and taking a few drives its still the same. Oil pressure is fine and sits at 2bar when idling at temp.
Im going to try a bottle of wynns tappet cleaner as my mates had some success with it before. If that fails I guess my next step is to ull the tappets out? I asdsume this requires the camshaft to com off and hence time to change all the belts also? I would also inspect the water pump.
Is this a difficult job, how long would it take the average home mechanic and is there anything else worth doing while im in there?
The car also has a slight hesitation at around 5000rpm and im wondering if this could be related? Performance seems fine and it runs lovely, but the tap tap tap annoys me! I have another car so can happily strip this down over a few days!

I believe its a tappet but it won't hurt to check the injectors. The oil may be 5-40 I can't remember what I put in now [:-] I don't think it had been changed for a while as it was quite black coming out.. I will see how it behaves after the cleaner and try some thicker oil in it. I have just chucked the cleaner in and am off on a long drive so will report back either way
Cheers Guys.
before you start spending big bucks, just throw a few quid to try this out [link=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290345347983&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT]http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290345347983&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT[/link] it worked for me and a few others on tipec.

I thought all 944's made that tappety sound, isnt it just the injectors? Why dont you get a good indie to take a look and tell you what he thinks before you start taking it apart? Tapety tap tap http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PzA5jWOM4c you can hear it the most at the last 10 sec of the video... Edd
The noise is more noticable when its up to temperature.. Which would indicate the oil is a bit thin. I will take a video of it when I get home tonight (after a blat up the dual carrigeway and post it up for you to hear. It spent a lot of time at my mates garage and he believes its the tappets.. although not a porka indie he specialises in Japanese cars but knows his engines. The sound is similar to the video posted but I would say a little less frequent.. but it does increase with revs.. I usually only hear it when Im driving through town/a tunnel or through traffic where the sound bounces off another object and through an open window.. but it can be heard easily with the bonnet up! As said I'll do a video tonight.. Cheers Guys
