tappets and other novice questions

I am looking to have my newly acquired 911 serviced and spoke to my local opc who offered a special service involving the tappets. How often should these be checked and is this special service from the opc worth having as with all the bits they do it will cost £500. Would somebody confirm how often they have their car serviced if they are only doing 5000 miles a year?

Can anybody recommend a Porsche specialist in my area, I live in Blackpool?

Also mine being a 1984 targa it has no rear seat belts can they be fitted with the ones they put in the later model years?

As i'm near the coast is it worth putting more underbody sealant on my car and if so what should I use. I wish to keep my car as original as possible so don't realy want to black all the underneath unless no alternative.

Last point how do I amend my details that appear on the left as I am a PCGB member?

As a quick response, I had my 6,000 mile service in October 2003, and will get 12,000 mile service in January / February having done around 5K miles since last service. PCT in Coventry quoted me £350 plus VAT for a 12,000 service to include tappet adjustment.

Tappet adjustment is I understand important on these cars, thus my request that they do it at this service.

As an aside, JZM wants circa £400 plus VAT for the service, whilst Autofarm wanted 600 plus VAT ! Discount Auto Tech in Wales advertise at £235 but no knowledge of them I am afraid. Also no idea re: Blackpool dealers / independents.

Hi, As far as I am aware HARTECH at BOLTON are about the best in our area (I live in CHORLEY), www.hartech.org.uk. Give them a call I've found them very helpful for advice although I have not used there services yet!

My usage is only 3000 miles a year, my specialist (based in London so o good to you) recommends a full service (with tappet adjustment) every other year, and alternates with an oil service and general check over. prices around £320.00 and £160.00 using
semi synthetic oil.

Prior to me having mine serviced at Strasse (Leeds), the previous owner used Tony Greatorex in Stockport (0161 443 1313). Dave Forrest at Strasse spoke very highly of him.

Mine seems to have been serviced annually, by the way, usually having covered 4-6000 miles. The services have alternated between full 12k and oil change 6k.
