tappets...

Would be grateful for some quick advice/feedback if anyone in the know out there tonight...

My car just started sounding like an old escort from my youth.... Significant tappet sound coimg for my rear and definately audible while driving and not clearing. Appreciate tappets are hydraulic so assume one or more at not filling? I drove 50 miles am today and heard nothing. On start-up on return tonight caught my ear immediately and still there after full run home. Nothing prior to this. Probably unrelated but I did have a full 24k service the day before.

Immediate question is - is it bad/damaging in any way to driver further short term or should I seek immediate fix before any further unnecessary mileage.

Grateful for any feedback ( reassurances!) out there.

Hi Vince.

Yes you do want to get it fixed sooner rather than later and yes it does sound like one (or more) of your hydraulic tappets is not pressurising.

Did they change the oil type or viscosity at the service? 993 hydraulic tappets do not like thick oil.

Ian.

Thanks for feedback guys. Oil same as last time - Silkolene Pro 5-40. Service done by Northway so would expect everything to be 100% re filters etc.
