Targa Badge removal

Hi all SCer's
Over the winter I want to repaint my roll bar and I would like to know if the Targa badge can be removed easily or do I have to dismantle much of the interior to get at it?
I have already painted the roll bar once by masking the badge but I am not really happy with the results.

Thanks in anticipation
John

Hi John,

You'll have to remove the targa bar cover to get the badges off, this means you'll have to:

1. remove about 10 screws from underneath the seal that runs in front of the bar (I removed the seal)
2. remove the 4 large plastic rivets each side of the roof mounting holes
3. from up inside of each rear wheel arch remove the 2 nuts that hold the cover on
4. With a bit of a tug the cover should come off without too much trouble!

Once the covers off you'll see the 2 fasteners that hold the badges on.

Good luck!

Tim.

does the seal at the rear of the targa cover, which laps over the rear glass screen come off with the targa cover, or do you have to take that off first, and if so is it simple enough to replace

thanks

I found refitting the rear screen seal the hardest part of refurbishing my Targa hoop. The seal is an independent item and can be removed once the hoop is slightly loose. Take pictures of it's fitting at the lower part of the loop as this can be confusing when refitting. There are two sliding metal fittings that complete the join of the lower screen seal where it meets the hoop you may need to move these depending on whether or not the bar has been removed before. Either way there is a right and wrong way to attach the rear top seal. I bought a new one and discovered there is an element of stretch in the seal that you should allow for or you will end up with 'bulge' in the seal, it will look a little loose and won't press home properly. Take your time, take digital pics and you should be ok.
