Targa NZ

Got home today to find a leaflet in our mailbox saying our road is closed for 4 hours on Friday 31st for stage 25 of the Targa NZ 2008. Result! I just need to find out if it's a special stage or a tourist stage - can you guess which I'm hoping for ? [:D]

Check the entry list - cars 310, 317, 344 and 399... http://www.targa.co.nz/

Hey that's pretty cool Fen. Targa is a great format if more dangerous than many people realise. Our most famous home grown driver Peter Brock got himself killed in a Targa only a few years ago. However that should be some fun viewing. Take some pics or video if you can. Surprising how heavy competitor #360 is. 1460kgs. Mostly stock car and then add a cage. There's actually not a lot of modification allowed.

Doh! I missed 360. That'll be who I'm supporting then. Hopefully it will still be running toward the end of the event.

If you check their Google Map file we appear to be about 1k from the end of SS26 (not 25 as the notification says - the house with the blue roof which is easily seen). It seems to be a special stage anyway [:)][:)]. It's a road I'd quite like to drive when closed; reasonably windy but well surfaced and fully 2 lanes wide.

I work from home on Fridays so I'll get the Nikon out, but I don't have a video camera unfortunately.

Id love to see that Fen...! There are some rare machines in that......!

What about 305 a Strada Arbarth 130TC... I havent seen one of them for years and my father would cry if he knew there was a Hillman Avenger in it no 105 .. He used to build them as rally cars in the '70s .....

How cool is that?!

Have just downloaded Earth to new PC and I'm sure I can see Fen with a beer in his hand.....![;)]

I feel like I'm there with you and ever so slightly envious that I'm stuck over here......[8|]

Yep that's me!

Actually that pic was taken about 2 weeks before we left the UK, and hence we didn't choose the roof colour, although it looks OK. Makes it easy to spot on Google earth.

Your gutters need cleaning [:D]

Be nice if they could retake the photo's while the Targa was running, there would be several blurry dustballs spaced 1/4 mile apart

Well the stage is over. It was well worth a watch and I took 745 photos [&:]

Highlight was the Ford GT without a doubt; I could hear it coming and could tell it was the sort of car that has a lot of power as the taps were clearly only being opened on straight bits. the Cortina Savage looked to have had an argument with a fence post or mailbox and had had its exhaust broken off at the downpipe so it was limping, as was the Pantera unfortunately.

Car 360 seemed to be going well, but it had terrible compressor stall so it needs a decent dump valve and it appears to need a new PU and pop-ups...

Awww the Strada [:D] Love it.
Was my first ever car. Although unfortunately not an Abarth []
Cheers Fen

Wow Fen! [:)]

......and to think they all drove past the end of you driveway I just spent an hour on my driveway washing the car and all I saw was Mrs Hubbard up the road popping out for a loaf of bread in her electric scooter [8|]

I'm not sure which I'm more jealous of, the weather in those pics or you having a rally event right on your doorstep [:'(]
The pics are great, the GT40 and the S2 in a frock are my favourites.
