Hello there

I' m rather taken with the 993 targa model (am I alone?) I' d like to councel any advice from 993 owners re specific problems /leaks/ roof rattles etc before embarking on a targa search. Any advice greatfully accepted

regards

John.
I have had 993 Targa for 3 years ( following 3.2 Targa & 964 Targa over preceeding 10 years).

I believe the 993 is the best compromise between a coupe and the convertible as not only does it look great,(biased!) but with the top back & windows open you are pretty well enjoying open air motoring. There also is not too much wind buffeting and cruising at legal limits the wind noise is not too intrusive.

To date the only problem with the Targa is an occasionally squeaking glass roof which can be cured by ensuring runners are regularly greased.
Frankly though when you are using the car as it should be used you do not hear this!

Enjoy!

Some pundits believe that the chassis flexes more with the Targa than the Coupe,to measure this difference you either must be on the track or drive " insanely" .However,I did have a strut brace fitted to the car soon after purchasing and I believe this did improve the handling.
This mod also is often fitted to the coupe with a similar improved result.

Overall the Targa is a good buy,& there is nothing to beat driving with the roof back on a summer' s night with the stars overhead.

Hi John,

I have had mine since July of last year.

When I test drove the car it did have a few rattles and squeaks but was easily adjusted prior to purchase by the garage.

Its been great so far and I am looking forward to the Summer if we get any in England of course.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Mark

i own a coupe, but i must say the 993 targa is a very desirable car...

it has the varioram engine (slightly more powerful/torquey than early 993s), i thin the glass roof is a brilliant work of art...

its a great car

Had mine for just over 2 years now - lovely car & every time I think of changing it nothing quite seems to appeal quite as much...

As problems go, nothing serious has gone on mine - so far. The roof squeeks a bit & needs lubricating now and again and there' s more wind noise than the coupe, but no leeks, corrosion (some very unpleasant pictures on rennlist.com), electric motor/mechanism problems, etc.
