Targa Roof cover replacement

Ahead of sadly probably selling in summer my beloved 3.2 I'm planning on replacing the targa roof cover - got the help of a friend who's done it before on his, and waiting for a hot summer day (could be a while) to do it...

In the meantime I found this one at £279

Any ideas if this is the best place to buy it? Would you think of replacing the seals also at the same time?

Also... trying to work out a value for a '86 car (but '87 model with G50) in guards red, targa, 68k miles, pretty decent nick, serviced regularly by Russell Lewis of RSR, original paint etc. Not perfect at all but pretty decent. Serviced a couple of months ago and all fine. Any ideas???

Any help gratefully appreciated.

great buy....I bought this and got a local upholster to fit as its not easy.
I blasted the bare frame at my work first then painted and gave it tothe local upholsterer.[;)]

thats the cheapest for the WHOLE kit not just the outer kit...also you get discount if you are in the porsche club

Thanks!

When you say you blasted the frame do you mean sand blasted, ie sanded it down but a bit more fully!!? Then what did you paint it with? By the way have you ever painted or heard of anyone painting the outside of the targa roll bar?

Hi, Sand blasted ...then I got it powder coated by a local firm
I can Blast and paint at my works premises...:ROFLMAO:[sm=spanner4.gif]:ROFLMAO:

Im afraid not, £228 for the complete kit

Hi, I painted the exterior of the hoop a few years ago. Gave it a clean, rough it up to create a key for the paint and just rattle canned it with Halfords satin black. I took it of as I was replacing seals so the self tappers under the seal were easy to get too, but I would think you could do a reasonable job with careful masking with the hoop cover in situ.

If you are doing a full refurb, you will also need strips to run along the front and back edges (you can use mohair strips or wide webbing) and you'll need some special rivets. I have a bag full which I got on ebay for a few pounds. If you are going this far, I can let you know where I got them, alternatively Southbound will be able to provide them.

Good luck. You'll need a lot of patience. I have now done mine twice and the outer will need a little extra work at some stage to get it how I want but for now, driving it!
