Targa roof leaking due to corrosion

Hi,
I have a slight water leak from my 993 Targa roof. in the short term, sealant might seal it. however I am looking for a more permanent repair. Can anyone give me advise on a reputable dealer or garage that could undertake this repair.

The corrosion is on the nearside, water drops on front edge (nearest to the door) of passenger seat. according to a mechanic there is metal missing where water should run off.
I live in North Wales, but would travel UK wide if I could find someone good to repair it.

Well, maybe its a bit too far for you, but I can recommend a Porsche specialist in west Germany (aml-schuessler.de).
They fixed my targa roof, as the sun blind didn't work and it was leaking as well - its working fine now for 2 years.

Hello,
I would usually deal with a problem like this myself, but I am undertaking a big landscaping job in my back garden this summer so I cannot give time to working on the car until the autumn. This is why I was looking for a recommendation of a body shop or garage for this sort of work. The mechanic who looked at the problem said he could see directly into the cab from above the roof where the edge of the rubber (parallel to the windscreen) meets the edge f the roof. I believe that it is the metal for the water run off that is corroded.

thanks, but in the I went to the OPC in Chester and they put me in touch with their approved body shop, Road and Race Restorations in Bolton

Still be good to see some pictures if you have them as i am still not sure of the location & missing metal bit and might helps other Targa owners to look out for the same issue

I took the internal roof bits off but it is difficult to see anything as you need to remove the glass roof and control structures. I am going to ask the the body shop to take some pictures.

The Targa roof has been temporarily repaired. They replaced a rusty bolt that was allowing water through. they also used sealant. They said that the frame was also corroded. They offered to replace the frame for £3000. I believe that I can find a cheaper repair. I am going to talk to the Germany Porsche specialist that Chrissss81 recommended. Anyone know any other specialists?

How bad is the frame? You got any pictures of the corrosion? Does the frame need replacing? I have some stuff that will kill the rust and protect it without painting it.
Greg at Tognola in Datchet is very good.
I have seen complete roofs on ebay before cheaper than that but I guess the labour is a big part of the cost

You could try Specialised Paintwork in Reading (round behind the OPC & Porsche UK at J12 of the M4) - they do body work repairs and paint and seem to have a lot of Porsche experience (as well as other exotics). They've just replaced the scuttle on my 993 (the dreaded windscreen rust).

They can be found here http://www.specialisedpaintwork.com/ - ask for Karl

The 993 Targa roof can be tricky.
The problem with mine was also that the previous owner went to several 'specialists' who were trying to fix it.
Parts of the roof mechanics and the sunblind were actually missing - so whatever you decide to do, just make sure that you find a really experienced Porsche specialist to get it fixed properly.
