Targa roof problem

All of a sudden my targa roof has started making strange noises. First of all when I retracted it the last couple of times, there was a very alarming and loud crack (sounded like something hitting the glass) when the roof was about 1/4 opened. Then afterwards, when closed the roof made the most horrendous whistling noise from relatively low speed where the small flip up bit meets up with the large glass panel.

I've had a trawl through the technical articles but found nothing on hte subject although I do recall something about this problem with osmeone else's car in the past.

Anyone got any advice please?

Thanks Maurice

I now have in my hand a Porsche technical bulletin sent to me by another Targa owner (thanks Graham!) but it's more about rattles etc. When it stops raining, I'll go out with it and have a look around to see if anything in there is helpful. Having had a quick look again earlier, something is definitely out of alignment as the drivers side flip up glass panel in the roof isn't sitting flush with the rear glass panel in the closed position.

Anyone else got any clues? Thanks

Hi Craig, speak to Tognola. There's a guy there who sorted out my Targa roof last year, knows the roof inside and out.

Regards,

David.

Thanks Maurice and David. I had another look at it today and managed to get it all to seat properly, although there's a sort of long spring bar thing on a runner that seems to be the source of the problem as the drivers side runner doesn't want to stay where it should in comparison with the passenger side. I also fixed a rubber seal that has come adrift - I reckon this got caught up on the spring bar and caused the whole lot to move out of position. Can't see any kind of fixing although I did find a very small piece of plastic that seems to have broken off from something. Might take a trip to Tognola's later this week and see what they think.

Thanks for your help chaps

I think there are cable ties that hold those runners in, mine came loose and the whole thing 'twanged' like you described. The Tognola guys will put you right. They also fitted some later parts which prevent recurrence.

Thanks Tom - will have a good read. Also found the articel on replacing the spoiler wall which is another "to-do" on the list!

Cheers, Craig
