Targa roof seal replacement - help!

Hi All
I'm getting a lot of wind noise from the front edge of my Targa roof... the seal between the front of the air deflector, and the windscreen. No end of adjustment fixes it, and the garage has said that the seal has collapsed and needs replacing.
It seems that this seal is held in with the bolts that join the windscreen frame to the Targa roof...
No one is able to give me a price for this job - saying they've never done one, it has a reputation for being difficult, and there's no time allocated in the Porsche workshop guide...
Has anyone had theirs replaced?? Any guidance on how many hours it might take?? I'm loathe to sign what is in effect a blank cheque...

Tom,

Whereabouts in the country are you located? There are a few specialists that I can think of who already replaced those seals. You do need the factory manuals to get clued up.

Secondly, I have had cracking dealings (no affiliation by the way) with Jeremy from the Impact Bumper 911 forum.
As I am mostly into the pre-993 porsches, he provided me with 964 and impact bumper 911 parts from his stash. The man buys New Old Stock from Official Porsche Centres and is a gem for locating the difficult to find parts.
Pm me should you wish his telephone number or his email.

Kind regards,

Bert

I have been thinking about getting my seal done too. You talking about the main one fron A pillar to A pillar infront of the Lift up flap at the front?

Who do you know that has done them? I'm in Oxfordshire

What Manuals do you have? I have the ones on creaking & water leaks

Yeah - that's the seal I'm on about.... most people seem to say it's a bit of a job (polite translation!!)...

Call Tognola in Datchet, nr Windsor. They know all the ins and outs of the targa roof, sorted mine out when one of the runners failed. They also replaced some of the smaller parts with updated ones that are more reliable. [:D]

Spoke with Tognola this morning

Seem very knowledgable about the Targa roof - and has actually changed this part before... which is a first!

Definately cheaper than other options too!!

Thanks for the recommendation.

Tom

What price does he charge? Does he use OEM parts? Can you supply the parts?

Cheers Graham

Pleasure Tom. [:)]

Tom, while you're there get them to look at the rest of the roof. Some of the small parts are subject to failure and replacement now might prevent a bigger failure later. Just a thought. [;)]
