Targa Roof

Unbelievably twice in last week I have forgotten to secure it and driven off...so it has flown off at 50mph+ and is now an ex-roof! So where can I buy a new roof? Or a mint conditition second hand? There are no serviceable parts as I've thrown it away!

Try someone like douglas valley breakers....they may have one. I think it needs to come from a 964 to fit as the old 3.2 had different catches I believe. I have seen them on eBay too but they are not cheap. I just bought a new headliner for my targa and that cost mega money for a piece of cloth!!!. I think you will be doing well to get one for under 500 pounds!....good luck in your search.

Tim

god knows how much a new roof would be from Porsche....maybe worth a call just to judge what you will need to pay for a secondhand one......my guess is 2000 pounds for a new one! Maybe worth claiming on insurance???

I heard that an insurance company wrote off a car because of the cost of replacing the Targa roof on an otherwise pristine car. Good luck with the search, but don't hold your breath on the price!!!

Price from Porsche is now a not unreasonable £10000 +VAT. Have bought a second hand minter for £1100 +VAT......feel quite relieved!

10k !!!!!!!!!!! how do porsche justify these prices???? you can get a new car for that! I cant belive its that much....my 2k estimate now seems far fetched!

Glad you got it sorted...where did you manage to get secondhand one from.

Tim

The carbrella seem a a great alternative to the targa roof, I'll be interested in purchasing one also.
Maybe if we purchase a bulk order we can get a reasonable discount?
Its definitely got to be a saving on shipping costs?

What do you think?

My german is not great but it seems good , and has a buy it now around 320.00. I did a search and found some others also in germany.
tempting, but mine is great and garage space limited. Im up for a group buy on the carbrella if we can get a few others to join in.

I think the buy it now is 870 euro and the locking mechanism is broken on the left hand side, but it is recovered.....with new vinyl.

Charlie ( bad german as well)

Somehow it doesn't surprise me after enquiring about a new pair of heat exchangers and was told £4,000.

I have ordered a carbrella today as it doesnt look like enough interest for a group buy.
There was no postage cost when i ordered online. i will post any updates.

Phewwwwwww ...... to put it politely, absolutly unbelievable, just a licence to print money. So glad to got one. Almost makes £1100 sound cheap !!!

does everyone else get a different amout of wind noise every time you refit the roof or is there a nack to doing it ???????

Try making sure the sure the central 2 clips are still engaged along the front edge of the roof, as it is possible that when you turn the handles to pull the roof down, that one or more of the clips disengage. Mine do sometimes, and the wind noise is unbearable. They can be adjusted. I took a dremmell to mine to lengthen the slots which allow more adjustment of the slots. They're hidden under the roof lining.
