Targa Roof

Where are you based? The guy who originally did mine is excellent and based on the Surrey/Hants border. Let me know if that's any good and I'll give you the details. You can do quite a few adjustments yourself if you're prepared to fiddle a bit. On mine the whistling is usually due to the front deflector being misaligned with the main sliding panel. Does the whistling stop if you push the roof bar (where the two meet) with a finger as you drive along? If so, raising or lowering it as required can have a great effect and is easy to do. Does the entire roof flap when you slam the door? The whole thing might need adjusting and tightening - again not too difficult. I found that a lot of the adjustment bolts kept working loose on my so I had to Araldite them in place. Just don't get me started on the roller blind and what to do when that goes wrong...! Cheers/John

You glued the adjustment bolts with Araldite???? Could you not have used a thread lock?

Hi Lots of good info here on Targa roof operation: http://pcarworkshop.com/index.php/993_-_Targa_Roof_Operation_Outline and a bunch of TSBs on Targa roof noise here: http://pcarworkshop.com/index.php/993_-_TSBs%2C_Parts_Guides Failing that, PM me and I can maybe help a little on the phone, as wind noise is a common Targa issue.... Hi

Does anyone know anyone good with setting these roofs up? I have a couple of minor rattles but the worst this is when I get over 70 there is so much wind noise! No not me generating it, my car!
If I push the main glass up a bit at the front that reduces it.
It must be some fine adjustments but there must be someone with good knowledge.

The section on "Basic Roof Height Adjustment" in Tom's first link are a good illustration of the main bits that need adjusting. It's very simple to do but can be a little trial and error and this might cure most of your problems. You may find that the rattles are coming from one or more of the bolts/axle plates and once adjusted and pinched up tight you've cured the lot. Good luck! Cheers/John

I found that if I close the roof whilst stationary it whistles next time I drive the car, but if I close it at about 30-40 mph it snaps shut and is quiet when I speed up. Mines quiet at all legal speeds :) Gerry

Hi I have just changed two seals part number 993 562 531 00 took about 20 mins total , cost around £30 for the pair from Leicester Porsche . The wind noise level dropped straight away , it`s worth a try . You will find the old seals have gone hard .. Hope this helps ...
