Targa Top and dreaded wind noise

At 60 mph plus the wind noise with the Targa top makes having a conversation a little difficult. I came across a company in the USA, “Cars Inc” and the owner, Dan Petchel who markets the front seal for a 1989 3.2 Carrera Targa Sport as the correct one - with Porsche discontinuing the original seal in 1995 and selling the 964 seal in its place. Dan says the 964 seal is 20% larger - hence not being able to get a complete seal. He took the opportunity to have new seals made to the original spec as he had the same problem with his car and his business is Porsche Restoration. At $250 delivered to the UK it is not cheap but a lot less than the Porsche seal replacement.
Any one heard of the guy and the product?

Hello David, If you are likely to be in the Stockbridge (Winchester) area sometime call Southbound to see if they are available to look at the car and perhaps advise on a solution. I hear they are very good on advice, and their car trimming is so admired, they have a long waiting list to carry out work. Perhaps they can tell you what is exactly needed so you can get the noise fixed without wasted effort and money.

Hi Steve - thanks for the info. Looking at their website they seem to have encountered this issue before and they are only 45 minutes from me.
The bonus is that they will be attending Practical Classics at the NEC over the 22/23 March weekend - Stand AJ-48 and I already have my ticket - so even better news.
Will update my progress.

Hi, would be good to hear how you get on, my targa top makes a fair bit of noise, doesn’t bother me too much, but if it can be improved, I would be tempted.

I met David Nunn at his stand at Practical Classics and it was clear he has encountered this problem before. Am taking the car down on 29th April to be checked out - he is on a few weeks break, hence the delay.
I will report back.
David

Thanks David, I hope they can improve it a bit for you.

my Targa is going in to Paul Stephens shortly for an oil change before we tackle the NC500 :) so I might ask if they can have a look before we go, but I do hope to have the roof off most of the time…..

cheers
Mark.
