Targa Wind Turbulence v Cab

Hi All,

I’ve owned a 991.2 gt3 for the last five years and fancy a change.

really like the look of the targa 992 4s but have a few questions and would appreciate some guidance from any owners as struggling to arrange a test drive with a dealer.

I’ve read numerous reviews and there is mention of wind buffeting, albeit this is partly resolved through the use of a pop up spoiler above the windscreen. I really prefer the look and rarity of the targa over the cab, but wanted to see if owners had any views.

having done track days for some years in the gt3, I am looking forward to using the car more as a daily and for road trips, any views on how good the car is for this.

Any other general feedback from owners of the 992 targa, I am thinking of the 4 s over the GTS as Struggling to justify the extra premium for an open top car.

thanks for any guidance

Hi,

I have just taken delivery of a new 992 Targa GTS, this is my second Targa the first a 991.2 which I had from 2016 to 2019, followed by a 992 Carrera S Cabrio from 2019 until March 23.

The two versions, Cabrio and Targa are both great looking cars, and as you say, the Targa has a two stage wind deflector, on the top of the screen rail which pops up when the top is stowed. I do find that at its lower level there is slight buffeting at around 50mph, but it seems to disappear when released to its maximum height. I like the fact the targa has a feeling of added protection around the rear area whereas always felt the Cabrio leaves you feeling exposed. Although even the Cabrio when the wind deflector is raised at the rear, does seem to avoid he breeze around the neck.

I would say, both are great looking cars, but I do like the rarity and classic look of the Targa.

I hope this helps.

Kind Regards David

I currently own a 991.2 Targa GTS, having previously had a 991.1 Carrera S Cab, and agree with David.

The wind deflector on the Targa is an important feature and in the raised position does help reduce buffeting. However, there is undoubtedly more wind noise in the cabin at medium to high speeds than there is in the cabriolet (with the wind deflector deployed).

I just feel the Targa feels just that little more special, but clearly both model variants are fantastic cars and you won’t go wrong with either choice.

Let us know what you go for!

I am not sure of your location, but Porsche Solihull currently have a Targa GTS demonstrator in Lava Orange, perhaps worth contacting Matt Allen their Sales Manager

Wow…. that was a quick decision and car selection…… What spec is it you have chosen…..

I hope you can have a few ‘non rain’ days to make the most of the initial experience.

Kind Regards David
