TARGA WINDOW PROBLEM

hi

I am after a bit of advise for my 964 targa. The drivers side window has come away from the window winder ie the metal strip on the bottom of the window has come off. On inspection of this part i have found mine to be badly corroded and in need of replacement (the window glass will not fit back in!). Can i buy this part only or does it come with either the glass or the regulator?. Does anyone know an approximate cost.

Thanks for the help

Tim,

It's not an uncommon problem. The rain drips into the lifter bar and gradually rusts it. It's happend to both of mine and the solution was to lever open the slot a little - enough to get the glass to slide into place - and then lock the glass in place with some mastic like Sikaflex. The "proper" solution is to buy a new lifter bar, but PET only shows the whole "cross arm" rather than the lifter bar on it's own so I suspect it's likely to expensive.

The mastic solution has worked in my car for more than a year with no further problems. I will admit that it's a "bit of a bodge" but it is, at least, hidden inside the door and no one would be any the wiser.

Hope that helps.

Regards

Dave

Thanks Dave,

I had already thought of the mastic idea!!!

I would prefer to buy a new piece if possible but i dont want to buy the whole window regulator just for the one part. So i may have to go with the mastic!

I will let you know how i get on

Thanks again

Tim

Dave,

I managed to get hold of a new genuine Porsche lifter rail from Design 911 for the sum of 49.99 plus the rubber strip at about 4 pounds+VAT. The old one was compleatly knarkard in the end. Porsche quoted over 130 pounds for lifter rail???. Anyway now all is well. The lifter rail is available on its own part number 911-542-057-42-M100 drivers side or 911-542-058-42-M100 passenger side. These parts are for the TARGA and CAB only 1965-1994 the ones for the coupe are 911-542-057-00-M100 drivers side and 911-542-058-00-M100 for the passenger side 1965-1998.The coupe ones are nearly half the cost of the cab/targa

Just thought i would let you know

Tim
