TDC Lock or not?

about to remove cam shaft assembly and head, do I need to lock TDC or is marking various things positions enough.

I assume that with the head off half of it is going too early anyway?
 
As long as everything is marked and you've located the reference points there's no need to lock the crank and there's no way of locking the cam nor do you need to.

Just make sure it's definitely all clearly marked up in the right place.
 
As stated there's no real need to lock the crank, the markings are pretty easy to read on the 944 but do ensure that once built the engine is turned over slowly by hand before trying to start it and recheck the markings again even if it does turn over.

Thanks guys. I have finally got to the daunting bit, but ahead full steam now.

Then just have to worry about putting it back together. [&:]
 
one tip Mark..don't use full steam when building engines..a nice steady pace with lot's of check points is much more beneficial for a successful outcome...:)
