Tear drop mirrors

A lot depends on where you get them!! New ones will invariably come primered, ready to paint. Secondhand ones will inevitably be painted the colour of the car from which they were removed. They appear on eBay pretty regularly but you need to be careful since the bases are LHD/RHD specific although the mirrors themselves are identical. Also there are powered and manual versions around - the electric ones are not just a simple plug and play exchange. Also note that the bases are different for different models - i.e. mirrors from a 968 will not fit a 964 etc. etc.
Ebay examples tend to be hotly pursued and often reach extreme prices. New kits from the likes of Jasmine will cost you over £300 in primer.

He didnt have the right ones for sale on ebay, but I messaged him and he got back to me straight away to do a deal outside ebay on mine to save him listing them/me waiting for the auction...
Arrived next day, and fitted within about 30 mins. I had to swap my temperature sensor over (or I would have done, except its knackered so I fitted a new one) and the screws and hooks that hold the mirrors on needed switching too; direct swap from my old mirrors..
well pleased, especially after all the horror stories Ive heard about getting the right ones/fitting them []
His email address is glynngreen@ntlworld.com
Hope that helps

PS.. You might want ot get a clay-bar to do a clean-up where the old seal was sitting on the paint work. You can hardly see the mark on mine anymore, but when I first removed the old mirrors it was very pronounced

Don't they nick them to order ... ask some of the unfortunate 993 owners ...

Exactly what I thought.
Ebay is fine for individuals selling stuff they genuinely don't need, but where is this guy getting a cheap and continous supply of these mirrors?
Anyway, why do you want to ruin the classic look of a 964 by putting the wrong mirrors on it?
Ask Porsche. They changed the mirrors towards the end of production. You have to agree that they (aero mirrors) are better looking than the big flag mirrors!
I, however, still have flag mirrors on my car. More due to apathy than any maintenance of classic looks.

I dont think they are nicked to order as someone stated as the guy is selling all sorts of porsche parts, some of which would be impossible to nick to order unless you nicked the whole car, so my guess is he's a breaker, parts sales company or parts distributor with a paint shop (or a spray can genius)
As for ruining the look of the car, I think the teardrop mirrors are 10x better and more in-keeping with the car than the flags, which look like they came off a transit van or something. Its not like its an irreversible mod... For all the purists amongst you who are disgusted with my mirror-swap, focus on my indicators (at least they're genuine and orange [] )

Looks are one thing,i want to see out of my mirrors,[] and for that flags rule!
Yes, you have a point there. It is a bit disconcerting only being able to see the badge on the grill of the car you are passing at the point when it's safe to pull back in.
Anyone know if you can get convex mirror glass for teardrops?[] (probably with etched text "Objects may appear further away than...." wasting some of the space!)

I think Ive seen some curved mirror glass for sale somewhere for the teardrop mirrors (the boxster has curved glass on the passenger side I think, just bent around the vertical).. I will try and remember where
