teardrop mirror mounts- where to find?

I would like to finally fit my tear drop mirrors but am missing the mounts which join them to the wings/doors.
Does anybody know where I can buy these?

Thanks in advance for any help

Kristian

OPC for about £50 each. Alternatively eBay or a breaker. If you by any chance need LHD I have a pair painted in lovely new Cobalt blue yo could have (sent to paint shop before I realised they were LHD [])

God I love this forum!

Yes I do indeed need lhd mounts.
I have the complete mirrors with all the lugs intact but just need the base mounts.Yours sound perfect.

How much do you want for them?

Cool. I don't suppose the car is Cobalt blue by any chance?

I'm more interested in helping out than the money, so £20+ post sound alright?

My car is Amazon green but I need to get my mirrors resprayed anyway so I'm not worried about the colour.

£20 + postage would be incredibly generous.

How would you like me to pay?
I can send a cheque or do it via paypal or direct bank transfer.
Whatever is easiest for you.

My address is:

Arklow House
Lower Street
Thriplow
Herts
SG8 7RJ

Thanks again, you have made my day.

No problem, glad to help and to be honest I'd never have got around to trying to sell them.

I'll try to get them in the post tomorrow. Once I know the postage I'll let you know how much it was and you can post me a cheque or PayPal me.

You'll also need rubber seals to go between the bases and the door which I don't have, but they're cheap from an OPC. Do you have the spring fasteners to hold the 2 parts together?

Hmm not sure I do have the spring fasteners. Are these easy to find?

thanks again

Kristian

I'll put some in the box. They are an absolute sod to put together. One of mine cam apart on Saturday when I was popping it back into place after being folded in and I couldn't get the thing back together so I'm going to my indie tomorrow to do it there as he has a special tool made of a valve spring compressor with additional brute force. Part of the problem is the shape makes the mirror difficult to hold and the fact it's covered in fragile paint just compounds it. If you could slap it in a vice it would be much easier.

Thanks again for your help

I'm handing the whole job over to my indie as I just know I would screw it up.

Got to be worth it though. I don't normally bother with cosmetic mods on my cars as I think generally they tend to look a bit naff - but the original flag mirrors are just too much of a barnacle on such a pretty car.

I know what you mean, but mine have become such a saga I'm at the stage of wishing I hadn't started.

I bought them from eBay for a good price with driver's glass missing. I got them painted and fitted them only to realise the bases were for LHD, but also realised the OPC had got me the wrong part instead of the gaskets between base and door anyway.

I had a pair of RHD bases from the mirrors on my 944 in the garage so all was not lost, but it was a pain I didn't realise before they were painted as it cost an extra £20 and about 4 weeks to get the RHD bases painted.

Next we had hassle getting them together, but my indie made a tool from a valve spring compressor to do the job. That cost his time and I had to replace the valve spring compressor.

When fitted them I realised first that the OPC had reordered gaskets for me for a flag type mirror, so they went on with a fake gasket made of insulating tape (I later found some spare gaskets that I had got with the RHD bases years ago). Next I realised that (being a LHD driver's one) the passenger glass was flat rather than convex and the field of view was too narrow, so I bought a new RHD passenger glass, which turns out to be £17 more than a driver's side one. When I fitted it on Saturday the mirror then popped off the base when I was turning it back into position. Today I got it reassembled by my indie and I'll be fitting it later.

Anyway, the saga is nearly over, though I haven't wired them up pending fitting with the proper gaskets so that is still to do, and the colours are all different. I copied the colours from my indie's 964 workshop manual and I can let you have them once I know they are right if you need them. Oh, and the flag bases have left a big enough mark on the doors that they will really need to be painted...

I haven't found the LHD bases yet - the garage got a very speedy "tidy" before I went on holiday so I could fit the car in it and I need to investigate exactly where I might have put them. They'll turn up though, hopefully this evening.
