Teardrop mirrors?!?

964rh

New member
Hi all

I'm looking at a set of teardrops on Ebay for a lhd 964.
Can/do these fit on a rhd car if you change the bases over?

Or if anyone's got a set of rhd ones lying around gathering dust let me know.

Thanks
Rob

Rob,

As far as I know the mirror housings are a different shape for LHD and RHD cars. The mirror for the passenger side is angled more than the one on the driver's side so they can't be interchanged.

Regards

Dave

I am always amazed at how much teardrop mirrors go for on eBay - especially considering the buyer will alomost always need to re-paint them to suit their car and probably have to source the correct bases to suit their model. I'd hazard a guess that the final costs are not too far away from the price of a new pair - you can certainly get fully functioning non-Porsche copies for about £150 a pair (unpainted) which I doubt even the most eagle eyed concours judge would be able to spot.

Same story with Big Red Calipers - I've seen them go for upwards of £800 on eBay for a tatty 2nd hand pair of calipers when you can get brand new kits including disks, pads and ss braided hoses for £900 (incl of vat and delivery). Unless I can save at least 30% over new prices i'd rather buy brand new.

Scott - Where can you get the non original ones from for that money? The cheapest I've seen are at Jasmine for £295+.

Would rather buy new and copy than off Ebay anyway. I get the idea that most sets on there have been wrentched off someone's car on the street.

A company called Club Autosport does copy teardrop mirrors as part of their 944 to 968 conversion kit for £155+vat a pair (my catalogue is obviously out of date now). You will probably need base plates to suit your car if the 968 ones don't suit. Their website is clubautosport.co.uk and their phone number is 01384 410 879. I have not used them before so cannot personally recommend but I have already decided to use them when I get round to replacing my door mirrors if I decide to keep my 944 as i'm currently hankering for a 964!

Thanks Scott

Gave them a ring, but are non-electric and not in stock. When they are cost is now £200+vat.

I'd better start saving for some Jasmine ones.

I'm not sure who makes or sells them, but I've got Aero mirrors with the standard Flag bases on my car. This is surely a way to cut the cost of chaning mirrors?

I've put teardrop mirrors on both a 944 and a 964, and each time purchased them second hand from the Porsche autojumble held at Husborne Crawley (excuse the spelling if it is wrong). I cannot remember the exact prices paid but I would not have paid more than £250.
The next autojumble is on Saturday 1st of October I think (there is an advert in 911 & Porsche world magazine)

I got my set which I need to re-paint to black for 280 incl VAT and del from Porsch-apart which is the cheapest original electric ones I've seen since buying my 964 a few weeks ago.

Now all I need is RS vents in my bumper, have been quoted nearly 400 unpainted for these with or without lights in them!!! Apparently the 993 ones are 100 quid but don't fit so don't buy them.
