Hi All,
I have a 987 s boxster fitted with two unusual factory options that i'm trying to find more info about. The first is option 661 (stricter emissions) verschaerftes abgaskonzept. All i can find in the parts catalogue is a secondary air pump fitted to the car for this option. does anyone know if this option effects performance or what the effects of fitting a performance exhaust may have ? Porsche GB seem very sketchy in their understanding of this option. The second option is 741 pressefahrzeug (press car) , I know the car was originally owned by Porsche in Stuttgart so no surprise on the option. what i do not understand is what does this option mean during the build process..there must be some reason for having a special code ? Any information greatly appreciated.

Hi Berty

I'm not sure about either but about 10 years ago I worked for an car manufacturer where the process for press cars was to take the cars off the end of the line and then "final" prep them by hand. This meant going over them with a toothcomb and basically hand "detailing" them - checking for scratches, marks, mechanical imperfections and so on including checking that the car was producing enough power (and sometimes more than spec). It was also practice to fill the bottom of the doors with heavy metal to give them a more distinctive "clunk". The cars were exactly as the others until the end of the line, but presented to a much higher standard.

Perhaps option 741 was to tag cars accordingly, and ensure that they were given a going over before being released to the press?

Thanks for the reply dapster. Hopefully I've no lead in the doors , a few extra HP would be nice though ...
