is this place to put up technical things that might be of interest to 968 owners,

try and breathe some life into this register

HI breath new life into the register that's what I am doing all the time writing about 968's and answering all sorts of queries see my latest on imobilisers plus we are very active in organising day runs to places of interest let's know what you are looking for and either my assistant Tony Parker or I will try and meet your requirements. I even organised a Register Rendezvous last September for all registers at a stately house but few 968's turned up. we have a resident technical person on the register, plus a few guys who really know their 968's regards Ken Coad reg sec

I know tony met him quite a few times, there is not much I don't know about my car now after a year of fixing just about everything

I live in the south west corner of Essex and currently not a PCGB member and so far I don't really see any benefit in joining

Your good self gave me a register badge at goodwood last year

The Register Sticker is the main reason to join the Club! We can't be giving them out to just anyone.... [:D]

Seriously, Martin, have a look at what the Club can offer and make a decision. Personally, I think a lot of it is down to your local Region, so pay them a visit and introduce yourself to the organisers. Tell them I sent you, Martyn and Greg are both enthusiasts when it comes to the front-engined Porsches.

You're also welcome to visit any of the Regions. The London region's meets at the ace Cafe are always worth a trip.

I understand that a lot of people aren't interested in the social side, the numerous discounts, and other benefits, which is why this forum will always be open to non-members.

Are you on the UK Transaxle Facebook group? There are loads of meets organised there, both PCGB and TIPEC, whenever 2 or more owners are planning a day out. It's largely 924/944/968/928 owners, but has expanded to include owners of anything from a 996 to a Datsun. [:)]

Don't worry Paul and Mike, I keep Martin on the straight and narrow via 968uk - hence his appearance here as a guest! For things 968 you only have to look on 968uk to see what he has achieved in a year of 968 ownership - and the way he has torn into things like the starter motor to find how to fix it without paying mega bucks.

Hi Martin with your experience gained in mechanically sorting your car why not let us know what you have been up to I am sure there are many members of PCGB who would be interested but we are not all mechanically minded but interested to know. how someone has sorted mechanical issues. For instance I did not know their is a carbon canister under the front n/side wing which collects petrol fumes and can get partially blocked needing attention once in a while... rgds Ken Coad Seem you are already enjoying some of the member benefits worth joining PCGB.....

Hi

I'm not on the scourge of the earth Facebook, due to the work I do its not allowed as it shares far to much without your permission.

as for issues with the car its all sort of documented on 968uk, but I will go with a potted history.

I bought the car from a well known Porsche person that was recommended to me from more then one source, I picked it up from Burnley at the end of October 2013 it belonged to a lady who only covered 4000 miles in the car in the previous 6 years.

the journey home was uneventful but the fun started two days later.

the fuel lines split just above the rear torsion tube and was leaking all over the place, this kicked off the next 8 weeks of work in a small lockup garage with no power or lighting,

fuel lines replaced, rear suspension mountings replaced, rear plate lift, new brake lines, rear bumper seals and all sorts of other bits.
as work progressed I decided to do something about the Oil leaks at the front of the engine and discovered that I had driven the car home 280 miles with the balance belt broken inside the cover, lucky escape! this of course then kicked off all sorts of other works with the replacement of balance shaft seals and just about every other gasket and oil seal I could get to without removing the engine, these were all purchased from the local bearing shop for about £25.00 instead of OPC price of £200.

Replaced the broken Hall sender for £13.00 instead of OPC £190, replaced engine mounts front plate lift, all four shocks with genuine, wishbone bushes, wiper motor rebuilt, starter rebuilt £25.00, new radiator, the list is almost endless.
I have a spread sheet here that I used to track the work as it went on there was just over 400 jobs on the list and its still not completed.

onwards and upwards.

It has been estimated that if I had paid for the work to be done I would have parted with between 9-10K in labour alone without parts so far I have spent less than 2K including a wheel refurb

Hi your notes make interesting reading as I am familiar with most of the work you have in my opinion bravely undertaken. I don't know but guess maybe the underside was not checked out in detail and that's where some of the problems are hiding away i experienced something similar and will never ever buy a car again unless I can fully inspect the underside. As you say it can be costly, v.costly lucky for you labour was not accounted for. rgds Ken Coad have you decided to join up yet? we won't mob you !!

I also have done the clutch for £75.00 and replaced the exhaust for a low milage one.

Just done the front disks and pads.

The ABS pump was siezed and totally rusted out from lack of brake fluid changes, this I rebuilt with parts that came from a Mercedes 190E abs pump the abs now works fine and the repair cost me 2 ltrs of brake fuild and £12.00 for the ABS pump, the Porsche exchange price for the Pump is £1700.00.

Also rebuilt the Gear change linkage at the rear using rose joints and home engineered Nylon pivot block £20.00, OPC price £220.00

Next on the list is the very duff head lining this will be replaced with Grey Alcantara which of course I will DIY
