Tell me I'm not mad!

I'm selling my perfectly good 944 S2 which I have cherished the last 4 years to buy an 18 year old 3.2 911 which is a lot more expensive. This would be my new daily driver, am I mad to think I can use the 911 like this?

The 944 has been brilliant and I have no doubt the 911 will be just as reliable, but I am just aprehensive of selling a car I know inside and out, done loads of work to and has been 100% reliable over the last 4 years for an unknown quantity. To top that I will be travelling most of the country to go and get it!

Getting the 911 will be the acheivement of a life long dream, but I just want to know I'm doing the right thing[:)]

Obviously, if you are going to post in the 944 forum we are going to tell you you are mad (now that Fen has gone). If you post in the 3.2 Forum they will tell you it is the best thing you ever did.

Any old car is going to have issues ........because they are old. You know all (or most) of the issues with your current car. A new car will have a whole new bunch of issues to contend with, but that might an exciting challenge. If you have done everything you want with your current car then perhaps you are bored with it and need the new challenge?

After four years you are going to regret selling the '44 but a 911 will be a whole new adventure.

If you have always wanted a 911 get a 911. You might get killed by a bus tomorrow but you will have ticked another box.

Did I miss something ......??[&o]

Rich - no you are not mad, it is good to broaden your horizons and new experiences.
I bet you will always wish you had an 44 when you see one.

Good luck with the purchase.

Hi Rich,

As you know the 911 is a totally different car to the 944, I can understand the dream of owning a 911 as well and hopefully its one of the boxes I would like to tick some day. The 911 Carrera 3.2 is a nice car as are the 911 SC's, if I won the lottery I'm sure I would try each ;)...... and even then keep the 944.

Good luck with the purchase, don't forget to post some cheeky pictures of the new girl.

Cheers

Dave K.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm far from bored with the 944, had a briliant trip over to Wales in it last weekend and it seemed to drive better than ever, didn't miss a beat (it's typical when that happens just when you don't know what to do!). It has been a real gut wrenching decision just to put it up for sale, that's how great I think the car is. If I had the space and the money I would keep both but I don't.

I'm far from shy about doing work myself, everyone knows I have done all the main work to my car and posted write-ups on here. I know 944s inside out so going to a car I know lots of theory but little hands on is a little daunting.

I just figure it might be that last chance I get before we have a family and I need some thing with 4 seats and a boot (944[])

Hi Rich

I have had my 3.2 Supersport Cab (1988) for 16 years and would not consider getting rid of it. Go for it ,if you get a good one you will not be sorry[:)][:)][:)]

Have fun
