I have had my 87 924S for a couple of years. The last 2 occasions I have been out in it when stationary the temp needle soars to the red luckily I have been able to move and the needle has dropped back down.
The coolant level is correct, no oil contamination, the fan switch comes on and the rad is hot.
To my thinking, the water pump is working as when I am driving the temp is normal, the thermostat is working as the rad is hot, temp fan switch is working as the fan cuts in.
A friend suggested that the gauge sensor might be faulty.
Can any one suggest a possible issue or is my reasoning wrong ?
